Why the P-38J?

For the little I fly the 38's I've never had much success in the L but the G and J have treated me pretty well so I stick with those.  I particularly like the G.

Nope. And, unlike Luftwaffe iron, it doesn't come with a leather thong, or a footlocker full of Viagra, Cialis, and male hormones.

There is and it's the one I use for the 38L.   479th by Oboe.

That's the 'Little Edris' and it's a P-38J skin, 479th didn't field any L models.

So, it's the skins and the fact that the J model saw action with a lot of the squads we represent in AH, got it.  The dark, olive-green skins reason makes a lot of sense to me, as it's much harder to pick out aircraft with that color than, e.g. the shiny P-51D's.

(ANSWER) I flew a J and a squaddie had an L besided me, the thing outruns the L and out climbs it, 100% fuel and no ord on both when flown... we fought also and the J seems to loop better than the L (ANSWER)

It's all in your mind, the J does not out perform, maneuver, turn or loop better than the L.
