It's all in your mind, the J does not out perform, maneuver, turn or loop better than the L.

If you're able to out turn someone in the L while flying the J, you just ran into someone that can't fly P-38s all that well.  The only P-38 in AH that can out turn the J or the L is the G.

If you like, we can put it to a test.  You in the J, me in the L both with 100% fuel and we'll see how quickly you lose count on the number of times I've out turned and out maneuvered you.  Deal?

I'll do it :D

Edit: I need 38 tips bad. I'm finally starting to get really good in the 38. Just need a few more tips before I have it 'perfected' to my standards.

(ANSWER) I flew a J and a squaddie had an L besided me, the thing outruns the L and out climbs it, 100% fuel and no ord on both when flown... we fought also and the J seems to loop better than the L (ANSWER)

Balderdash.

Acceleration, climb, zoom climb and speed are identical in the game. If either aircraft is lighter, then it will have an advantage.

I've dueled some of the best P-38 sticks in the game (someday, I'll fight Delirium and Ack Ack and will complete that list). When I was in the L model, I saw no advantage towards the J model. Indeed, at higher speeds the advantage is to the L with its faster roll rate. Yet, even with flaps out flying just above the weeds, there is nothing one can point to that differentiates the two fighters. Which ever one comes into the fight lighter, that one has the edge.

Doesnt the J save 500 pds or something due to its lack of dive flaps and all the associated crap that goes w/them?

????

Wasnt that the reason myself and many other insane 38 jocks then clamored for a 38j..and it being green?

Am I off base here?
Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

LOL!  If what you call 'starting to get real good' is anything like the HO'tard move you pulled on me in that Spit V (and died for it), what you call 'getting real good' and what I consider to be real good are polar opposites.  Hit up someone else that is willing to waste their time with a HO'tard, you're not worth any of my effort.

 :rofl :rofl :rofl

Man, let it go.

I'm being serious, I really need tips, and I'm really trying to learn it, I'm not baiting, I'm being serious. I apologized for the HO back then, I offered up a 2nd fight, you went on rambling.

I seriously doubt SkyRock even still holds the grudge from one HO. Me and him joke around about it now.

If you have already dueled the best P-38 sticks, why would you want to duel little old me? I'm not any good at all... I'm available this weekend if you want to perform a mercy kill in the DA.

That said, I feel the P38J tends to do a little bit better at very low/stall speed than the L does. I'm not sure if it because of the Ls roll rate or some other issue... either way, I'm convinced the J should be lighter than the L, at the very least the weight of the hydraulics and the dive flaps should be removed from the J.
