The true meaning of Squaddie
« on: September 19, 2008, 03:18:32 PM »
I just wanted to share something with the community that really struck me as awesome.  One of my squaddies, Diver8Up, suffered big time house damage due to Hurricane Ike.  The following is a quote from our web site, posted today by fellow squaddie WT666 (with a couple edits):

Bops,

Spoke with Diver yesterday and we are putting a plan into motion to get his house put back together quickly. Im sure you guys are aware that Divers significant other is 7 months pregnant so getting his abode back to livable ASAP is a priority. Pregnant woman...no AC...no ROOF...personally that scares the crap out of me.

Currently he has power restored and is awaiting the insurance pukes to make decisions on amounts etc.

Since construction is a little slow I am taking a team to Houston of my employees to reroof Divers house and rehang the sheet rock in the rooms where the ceiling collapsed. As a safeguard for material shortages down in the area were taking all the shingles, plywood, drywall, nails, screws, condoms etc that we will need to complete the job.

Amazingly enough my employees who are young dumb and full of c*m think this will be some kind of grand adventure. Ah to be young and naive.

Anyway just wanted to let you guys know that diver is going to be taken care of.

Diver and I love to quote movie lines so the line that fits this situation is from Pulp Fiction.

"Go back in there and tell those Ni**ah's to chill, you aint got no worries Diver, the cavalry will be there directly".

Ranger:  It's people like you that restores my faith in the human race.  In these days and time to help a fellow to the extent you are going shows your true charactor.  A salute is not enough,  but if you believe in a higher power, your good deeds will not go unnoticed.  You have my upmost respect Sir.    Blt280

Very cool.   :aok

Reminds me of my co-worker and his Warhammer guild.  One of his members is wheelchair-bound and on fixed income (disability pay).  He pre-ordered the latest release (or whatever just came out), but the online store didn't follow instructions and took the money way before they should have - even before the software shipped. That caused overdraft fees and the subsequent canceling of his order.  My friend and another in his guild both chipped in $30 to pay the overdraft fees and get the software re-ordered so their guild-mate can enjoy adventuring with the rest of them - instead of waiting around 6 months before he could have scraped enough money together to dig himself out.

Yup, some online games build strong bonds between squaddies/guildsmen.
