Where to get an XP compatible laptop?
« on: September 20, 2008, 04:50:14 PM »
Anyone know where to get a new laptop that supports XP, or even better, still comes with XP? Knowing how Microsoft forces everyone into Vista I don't expect to see the latter, but it seems like there aren't XP drivers for any of the new laptops. I don't care if I have to buy an XP CD, but I obviously want it to work when I clean the plague of Vista off the hard drive.

Basicly all business laptops come with XPPro. Some models even XPpro preinstalled and Vista recovery disks included and vice versa.

Haven't looked at business ones yet. I'll have a look.

Forgot to include in the original post that I'm also in the "extremely cheap" category, at the moment. :D

I just looked at that one. In order to get them to install XP, I have to purchase 24 laptops annually with the same hard drive image. Won't fit in the budget... :D

EDIT: Although, I'll have to dig through and see if I can download XP Home drivers and just order one laptop with Vista to wipe later...I can't afford a Pro CD and have a Home lying around unused.

EDIT2: Nope, only Pro drivers. Looks like I'll have to wait another month to afford the OS unless I can find something else.

Weird. :uhoh 24?? Here in Finland if HP laptop has Vista business and there are no XP media included, you can call to HP and get XP recovery CD for free.

There must be hundreds of resellers who can do the job for you. :)

There are no difference between XPPro and XPHome drivers. Should work both ways. Also, if you buy Vista Business computer, you can use ANY legal XPpro media and key for downgrade.

I don't own any Pro licenses though. Home and Linux machines only. :( I'll keep in mind about the drivers though. Thanks.  :)

Ohhh, that's beautiful. So long as Canadian localization doesn't bite me somehow (don't see how it could), that's a definite winner.

Somewhat confused, though. Nowhere does it say the CPU is 64bit (even on the Intel specsheet), except under Processor, it says 64-bit computing:Yes. Doesn't that mean it is? I'd like to avoid 64bit if possible...

Supports 64bit but OS surely is 32bit. So, dont worry.

Just remember, this acer is not for gaming.

Lots of limitations, 2GB MAX memory, graphics is Intel GMA3100.

Just looking for something to do homework on, IM/browse the web, and play those old games that I used to play on my old Dell heap. You know, dumb stuff like ThemeHospital and SimFarm. :D

Go to cyberpowerpc.com.  They still offer their systems with XP.  Their notebooks range from $699-$3000.  Most can play AH as most of them come with a 8 series nvidia card or better or a ATI 2600 or better with a few coming with the Intel x3100.
