Next Setup Opinions wanted
« on: September 23, 2008, 06:33:25 PM »
I originally was planning on rolling into Normandy from Italy, but with the new release that includes a Soviet tank I was thinking of doing a Late War Eastern front setup instead.

Was thinking of doing a two week setup on the Hungary map that focuses on the encirclement of Budapest the first week (Allied on offensive) and then the attempted relief of Budapest by the Axis forces the second week(Axis on the offensive).  Would be the late war rides for each side, 109k, 190d, La7, Yak9u, etc... and the Tiger versus the T34/85.  Does that sound interesting??  Or would you just rather roll into the Normandy campaign??

Very interested in people's opinions on this one. <S>

Stolen from the HPS Sims website  :D :

Operation Konrad

It was dawn on New Year's Day in the final year of World War II. The enemies of the Reich were closing in on both the East and West Fronts. The Germans had squandered much of their last panzer reserves against the Americans at the Battle of the Bulge. In the east, the lines were holding pending the next major offensive by the Soviet juggernaut.

While Stalin hounded his generals to finish off the pocket of German and Hungarian troops holding Budapest, the Wehrmacht still had another offensive in it. And so the Germans launched Operation Konrad - an offensive that almost succeeded in relieving the surrounded troops at Budapest.

Can you succeed where the Germans historically failed?

Historians often refer to the Battle of the Bulge as the last great German Offensive of World War II, but in fact Operation Konrad holds that title. Konrad was the German-Hungarian effort to relieve the encircled garrison of Budapest in January 1945.

Hungary map was a beauty, but it was an AH1 map that came out just a bit before AH2.  Are we sure it has been conformed to the new standards?

I said my bit in the other thread, but I want to fly the 38L for a change, so a progressive MW-LW western front or even better a Pacific Campaign.

The map itself is unimportant to me. The maps don't add anything for me. The placement of the bases is the only thing that matters to me when it comes to the map.

These historic maps don't offer anythign other than a neat shape to look at. But they're inherantly unbalanced. In real life one side won these fights. Make it too historic and we just repeat the same thing.

There's a map of the Ardenne that was just released, A battle of the bulge event would interesting, Would be a good use of the Tiger-Sherman match-up. Late war planes (109g-14 and K4, Dora, 234s, Mustangs, 38s, 47s, B-17s, B-24s, Mosquitos and Spits). And the Axis would be on the offensive for one or two frames. The allies would be on the offensive for the same time. But an eastern front map wouldn't make me mad.
