AVA, what is up?
« on: September 23, 2008, 07:43:35 PM »
I hopped in last night tired of the LW slugfest hopin to find some more meaningful action. I entered arena hopin I'd find Dedalos or others to kill me, all that was on was 2 guys as allied attacking a base together--> :rofl < so I upped a 109F and they promtly tried to vulch, both were augered nicely then 1 of them texts that he is otw back and meet him 1/2 way!! " COOL " OTW I say! climbed to 10K found my adversary at 20K plus in a spit8, again "  :rofl ". He dives and after a few loops and rolls and stuff, he has blown all his E and I'm realing him in when he flops  and straight up HOs me  :huh Now I left thinkin well what is the point of the AVA when it is merely a less populated version of the LWs!! It was quite sad, where were ya Del ? coulda used a little NO FRILLS flyin!! Anyway not sure I'll return! I can get plenty of that DWEEBERY in the LW !  ;)

Why not stick it out a bit and try to make the AvA a little better(by your opinion).  Apparently for you what you seek isn't worth the effort, so how can we take what you seek all that seriously?

Maybe I just logged in at the wrong time! Before I choose a plane I'll peruse the roster and make sure some quality folks like yourself are in BUG !

Huh?  :rofl

Hey, I am willing to stick it out.  Wana mail me $15 and a few more for the time I will waste?  Is what he described what you want for the arena?  If yes the <S>.  If not, admit the mistake and put it back.

Put it back to what?

All your posts lack any constructiveness and are filled with disdain and disrespect.  If you are truly serious take a different tack and apply yourself. <S>

Back to the way it was before the war crap started.  That clear enough?  The problem is that you don;t like being wrong.  Accept it, change it, and lets move on.  We are now stuck with that because the AvA staff can't accept that they made a mistake?

There were 20 to 30 people on last night.  There was a base capture attempt going on in the north which was a drawn out fight for the V base.  There was some great furballing going on in the south with some very good fights.

We need to give this a chance.  We had all furballing with 5 people on a night.  We had all war with 5 or less on a night.  They both start out strong then dwindle to a few players.  This is an attempt to offer good AvA fights with the opportunity to use all of the equipemnt, not just fighters, without excluding any style of play.  As long as there are a couple of bases that are somewhat close, there can be furballing.  Personally, I prefer furballing but like the variety to try different aspects offered by this game in an AvA environment.

The choice of maps will be important.  The big risk is not having close airfields which kills the furball fun.  We could have a fighter/tank town to fix that on maps that have this potential.  Two close bases away from the war front that can not be captured.

Thank you for the input.  The only thing that separates the current one from the AvA of the past is the fact that the setups last for 2-3 weeks with a rolling plane set and that capture is turned on.  I can see nothing within those two additions that would limit the ability for like-minded people to find a fight.

Base capture is a fundamental aspect of the game as it was created and feel its addition into the AvA is overall a good thing.

The rolling planeset lends itself more to the historic and balancing aspect of the arena.  Again I don't see any major issues with this, other than possibly not having a completely "fresh" setup each week.

It is no longer about the "War".  It is about creating a 24/7 historical arena.

Venom

This is a distinct possibility, I will look into it for the D-Day Map.

Another good idea, thanks again Venom <S>

Yep, I was there, the only reason there were fights was because we all ignored the base capture attempt and kept on fighting.

The problem is not the base captures.  They are fine and who ever likes doing it and has fun doing it should continue doing it.  The problem is an organized effort (war set up) that focuses on that and encourages/promotes base captures at all costs.  Pork and auger, HO anything on sight, gang and run etc in order to win the war.  That, does not produce or encourage fighting in any way.  Plus, we have a war in the MAs, why do we need another one (since Bug is talking about making the AvA different than the MAs)

What would change that i think is squadron-based involvement. If you pit squadron's against squadrons  with organized structure IE flight discipline i think the amount of hoing, pork and auger would drastically decrease. As for the hanging and running... If you considering a 2v1 a gang then you're full of it honestly.

You're encouraged to always fly with a wingman, if you choose to fly solo then don't expect to not come up against a flight lead and his wingman because it's going to happen. The 78th FG always engage in pairs but are deadly in solo engagements.

"16 guns are better than 8"

Overall, if the AvA could get some more squadron's in there frequently I think that it would start to see some more outstanding air, ground, and sea battles.
