 :D

Without Great Britain's courage during the battle of Britain, the outcome of the rest of the war would have indeed have come out much worse.   For if Britain had either surrendered like France did, or even just had signed a peace treaty with Germany and stopped fighting, Germany could then have focused 100% of its resources on Russia.   Would Russia still have been able to blunt the German invasion of 1941 under that scenario??   America's armed forces were only able to invade Europe in 1944 because England was available as a base for the invasion.

Even with some very bad alternative outcomes, the United States would still have been a most difficult foe to defeat, partly due to geography.   America single handedly blunted the Japanese threat in the Pacific, and thus secured its west coast.  And Germany had no significant naval forces to support an invasion across the Atlantic.   That would have been a huge, huge obstacle, and taken many years of effort to prepare for.   In comparison, look how long it took to just prepare for the invasion of Europe across the English channel?

So America could still have won the war on its own.   However, it would of had to hold off both Japan and Germany  until the summer of 1945.   As long as it could have achieved that, the war would then have turned around entirely, and America would then have defeated both nations single handedly.

However, much of the earth would have been left radioactive wasteland in such a scenario.  And America's casualties in the war would have skyrocked, and probably been at least 4 times what they were.

There are so many what ifs in engaging in such speculation, though, that nothing is really certain.   Sure, America would of had a fleet of B-29's in 1945, and had atomic bombs.   But even B-29's could not fly round trip from the United States to Europe.  And even if they had made it, most likely the skies would have been full of thousands of Me-262's by then.

So I say this:  Thank God for Winston Churchill and the those other tough British Bulldogs!!   For they managed to fend off the Nazis, all entirely on their own.

We need a Brit CV strike airplane dont we? http://www.warbirdalley.com/firefly.htm

Were talking about, arguably, the best navy in the world at the start of the war. The first real pioneers of carrier based power projection. And all we have to show for it in the game is the seafire?

The RN deserves better. Please bring on the Firefly. Thank you.

I would fully support adding this plane, but only on the condition that we get the 16  60 lb rocket option described in the above web page.   That, together with its 640 rounds of 20mm, would make this plane a real AA  porking monster!

Regarding history, while it is true that the British did a lot to pioneer naval aviation, they did not fully realize its potential.   Otherwise, they would not have sent the Repulse and the Prince of Wales to their fate.

I just think the fact that British naval aviation was world class. In fact they had a huge carrier force of many different classes. And correct me if Im wrong but didn't they come up with the idea of the Fleet Carrier? British CVs, both large and escort, were heavily tasked starting in 1939 and continuing thru the end of the war. It may even be said they won the war due to the fact they kept the Mediterranean balance of power in British hands. The Brits understood the importance of this theatre and luckily for us Hitler didn't.

British naval aviation had some spectacular successes. One could even say they wrote the book on the use of carrier born power projection. The Japanese certainly read that book.

We need to honor that. We need to honor the RN. We need something more then the seafire. Thank you.

There was a carrier assigned to Force Z (Prince of Wales, flagship) but it ran aground in the Indian Ocean and the Prince of Wales and Repulse had to continue without it.

I don't know what aircraft it carried, but if they were Skuas I don't think it would have done anything but sink along with the BB and BC.

Yeah, about that.... Soon after the Me-262 went into service, there was a strong movement to supplant it by newer, better, and most importantly, more reliable designs, based mostly upon the new Heinkel He-011s turbojet engine. The role of the average Luftwaffe fighter would be taken over by the He-162 (NOT the rocket plane, the jet fighter with a BMW-003 in a dorsal nacelle) and the role of premier dogfighter would be taken over by either the Ta-183 or the Ho-229. Then soon after a few more, even bolder designs would take flight, some of which might have even out performed the MiG-15. Also, the advent of air-to-air missiles (X-4 wire guided) would have decimated B-29 strike wings.

I just get a little ticked when people assume the 262 was some kind of super fighter.

It was really a piece of sh*t, despite it's performance. You can only perform well if you are airworthy at least half the time.

I'd be real cautious about claiming the ultimate results of rough sketches would have possible exceeded the performance of the significantly later MiG-15.
