I don't know you well but I'm very sorry to hear that WMLUTE. Knowing that you made it out unhurt is good news leaving me with only one, man to man concern. I'm in hopes that you were covered under some type of apartment insurance. If not that would really suck. Best of luck to you sir

Red,

Lute has my #...when he is feeling up to it, tell him to call Andy.  I can send him some $ to help him get back on his feet if he needs it.  He can also crash at my place if needed...its only 2 hours away or so.  My computer crashed, so I just found out about this today from OHIO.  Tell him I am very sorry to hear about the fire, but ver relieved he got out ok.  Seriously, anything he needs, just have him call me.

Andy  :salute

(update)

I am stuck in an extended stay hotel that is a real rat hole (but cheap).  I am RIGHT next to the airport so I get lot's of airplane noise.

FINALLY got internet turned on so I will attempt to fly tonight.  (god bless aces high, i've missed it so)  A nice lady @ Comcast took pity on me and backdated last months bill so there wasn't any balance I owed and then waived all the fees for turning on service.  I should have a phone next week sometime.

It really is amazing how much all the little crud costs when you have to replace it all at once.

Went to WalMart to buy various "stuff" and I about had a heart attack at the checkout when I saw the total.  It all adds up those little things you accumulate over time or just buy occasionally.

It is also amazing just how much "stuff" there is to replace.  Things you don't even think about like fingernail clippers or socks.

A local Catholic charity gave me a voucher for some clothes at their "goodwill" type store and I managed to pick up some shirts but they didn't have pants/shoes in my size or a coat.  The thought of wearing someone elses clothes horrifies me (i'm a wee anal) but I guess it is better than wearing the same few outfits I managed to save over and over.  I did manage to save a coat, but it is more of a Fall/Spring weight and I hear tell these Pittsburgh winters are brutal.  They tell me in a week they will be able to help me with kitchen items

The GOOD news is I have my health, and nobody was hurt, and at some point down the road I will eventually have all that "stuff" once again.

Again my thanks for all the people that have posted such kind words.  As I said before this community is amazing and I am honored to have been a part of it these last 7+ yrs.

(p.s. andy p.m. me your # as I am pretty sure where I had it written down is ash)

I feel for you Lute  :pray.  I too was in an apartment fire many years back while in the AF (faulty 'shat' space heater), and was burned some on the back.  As much as that hurt, the emotional pain of losing your 'stuff' really hurt.  But you DO eventually replace it.  Keep your chin up brother 'cause you'll be back on top of the mountain soon.   :salute

WMLute Sir,

I am writing this note to you in regards to your tragic personal loss. Sir, your mention of "Pittsburgh winters" in your post grabed my attention. From what i can gather in your post, you being by the airport, would that be Pittsburg Intl.? in robinson twp?.If so,we are close.

Haveing been in the very same situation,,we know how it feels.Thankfully, you made it out.Material things...you will recover, and speaking of material things...if you are in the western pa. area, I would be more than happy to help with kitchen items etc,.

Just let me know as we can contact each other somehow.

Hang in there Sir, things will get better.

Dyna

Lute, sorry to hear about that.

While I'm not in a position to offer cash assistance I do have a lot of "stuff", some of which I could part with as I'm sure many of us do.

If there's things you need maybe you could post a list or PM one to those interested in helping.  I'm sure that between all of us we could take care of most of your list.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Sorry to hear this Lute.  Glad no one was hurt!!  I was in a apartment fire a few years ago, luckily I had insurance, but not near enough.  As you say, you never add up how much all the little stuff cost.
I thought this would be a good reminder for everyone to make sure you have good working smoke alarms in your house/apartment and also to make sure you have enough insurance on everything inside your house.(whatever amount you think your stuff adds up to....double it)!!
