CM Eye View
Requirements: A Joystick and throttle, and some type of rudder recommended. You will need at least two if not three unused buttons on the joystick, the CM eye mode won't work mapping to the keyboard. If you don't have three spare button on your main stickset, investigate using the built-in AH stickset modes.
Setup:
Select your three unused joystick buttons. If you have an unused 3 position slider, that will do nicely for forward and backward. In the Global area of the Map Controls window, Map the buttons as follows:
1. CM Eye Move Forward.
2. CM Eye Move Backward.
3. CM Eye Map View (here you can use a keyboard key instead). Do not map this to the same slider you use for forward and backward.
One last thing to do. Map two Keyboard keys, the F5 keyboard key to View Mode Fixed (the default) and the M key to CM Eye Move Map view.
Cruise mode:
This is your normal mode, press F5 to enter CM eye. You will be placed in the center of the base facing north. Engage your Move Forward button and adjust the throttle at the same time. Use the stick and rudder to fly. To reverse course, disengage the forward button and engage the Move Backward button.
If you fly into the stratosphere and become lost, press the keyboard key you mapped to CM Eye Map View. This will turn you facing straight down. Advance the throttle with the Forward Button engaged and you'll soon see the ground.
Map mode:
Handy for terrain builders as well as watching events. Using the Cruise mode, fly to your area of interest and disengage the move forward/reverse button. Engage the Map View button, or keep the keyboard Map View key pressed down. Using the throttle and joystick only, navigate the map looking straight down from your current altitude.
F1 returns you to the tower view.
