Skin: Spit IXc 81 Sqn RAF, N. Africa
« on: October 01, 2008, 03:00:50 PM »
EN199, flown by W/C R. 'Ras' Berry D.F.C., North Africa, January 1943. This aircraft took part in Operation Torch and the subsequent Tunisian campaign. Like some other aircraft in the MTO, EN199 was finished in the reverse of the tropical land scheme.  Azure Blue under surfaces, Bright Red spinner.  Codes are W/C Berry's initials.

With standard paint schemes you aren't going to get a lot of variations other than squadron markings and the occasional bit of nose art.  One could say the same of OD Mustangs or Glossy Blue USN paint schemes. I picked this scheme because it's the reverse of the standard. Look closely and you'll see that the Dark Earth and Mid Stone are transposed compared to the Polish Fighting Team skin. I wanted to do a 'desert' skin but when dealing with MTO Spit IXs there's not a lot of choice out there.

<Smacks Krusty>

We've had these Spit discussions before.  Paint schemes aren't going to be as varied, but different squadrons represented or a Wing Commander's A/C are a big deal to the RAF fans.  To me there is a huge difference between a Polish flight Spit IX as in your image and the one done by Jocko.  They represent totally different history to me.

This is a nice bird.

And it looks good in it's restored state on Malta in the Museum too :)

<smacks Guppy back>

Yes, we HAVE had this discussion before! The only difference is the color and content of the fuselage codes (not counting the inverted camo pattern). I'm all for getting a nice selection of skins, but come on... When you get down to doing the same thing with nothing but the codes different, you have to ask yourself if it's worth it.

Keep in mind we CAN'T do every skin in a single squadron, let alone the entire war.

As for this skin in question, I was pointing out we had a similar one just in case Jocko didn't know. If he still wants to finish it that's fine by me. I wanted him to be aware.

Nope we can't, but covering different theaters with more then one  is a good thing.

Much the same can be said for 109s if you don't pay attention to the detail.  Because I have a greater interest in Spits and their history, squadron markings are like 109 tail bands to me.  They say a lot with a little.

Jocko clearly is a Spit dweeb when it comes to history and markings.  As a fellow Spit dweeb history nut I appreciate the way he's bouncing around with the squadrons and markings.

Because I'm not a 109 dweeb, I'd be hesitant to call a LW fan on markings, even if on first glance they all look alike to me :)

I'll reiterate:  How many 3-tone F4U-1As do we have in game?  How many Green IJN skins?  How many OD Razorback Jugs?  Standard Paint Schemes.

So, was it worth it?

Thanks to Hammer for the images... In order of appearance mind you..

Camo colors are reversed between those two Krusty.  That is a noticeable difference to most of us.

Try again.
