Author Topic: HTC Manually Starting Engine's/Number's Don't Match Engine .... (Read 257 times)

Hello,
This is something that I have just recently notice when manually starting bomber engine's.The number's on the key board don't match the engine that should start. Not very important but when you have nothing else to fix they could be fixed. I know you want AH to be as close to reality as possible and stay on top as one of the very best sim's out so here's some information.

Engine 1 is the inside left
Engine 2 is inside right
Engine 3 is outside left
Engine 4 is outside right

That's how they start them in real life. Even with today's four engine bomber's. Your welcome for that bit of information that really isn't needed. But there it is

P.S. I know what you other pilot's are thinking,most everyone if not all of us start them all at once. I know guy's.

Shift-1 E starts the outboard left
Shift-2 E starts the inboard left
Shift-3 E starts the inboard right
Shift-4 E starts the outboard right
Shift-E starts and selects 'em all

These are correct, I've done it ten thousand times in AH. Unless you've got some weird-ass foreign keyboard, or have remapped those keys, it's dead on.

This may be true, although I had heard differently. I'm not involved enough in run-ups to really know.

For maintenance purposes...the engine's are designated:

#1....LH o/b
#2....LH i/b
#3....RH i/b
#4....RH o/b

...at least for as long as I have worked on them.

I think HTC has it about right.

Flakbait,

Yes I realize that is how they are started in AH,but that's not my point. If you watch any film of WWII bomber's the inboard left engine is alway's started first,then inboard right. They may be correct for AH but there not correct if they were to be made realistically. My grandfather used to work on WWII bomber's during the war and I have gotten alot of information about how they were started and overhauled. Some may disagree with what I have said,but it is fact.

Uh, they may have been "started" this way but they
are DESIGNATED the way AH has them, starting with
number 1 being left-outboard and moving across to the right.( 1-2-3-4)

I flew as crew on 4-engine aircraft in Nam ( C121J Super Connies )
and those engines were designated the same as
they are currently in AH.

In any case, it doesn't affect gameplay or the fligh model,
so WTFGAS anyhow?

Squirral, there is a reason for that. A B-17's electrical and hydraulic pumps were located on the #2 engine. It was always started first to provide hydraulic and electrical power. If I recall correctly, the same goes for the B-24 Lib. Just because they started engines in a particular manner doesn't mean they were numbered that way.

Did the LW guys know this back then? If I knew that and was a LW guy all I would aim for would be the #2 eng :-)

And on the other hand what happens when you lose electrical? I know about Hydrolic. I wouldn't want to be saying "Oh watermelon we gonna die cuz the goldin BB hit #2.

squirrel why dont you press shift 2 then shift 3 then hift 1 then shift 4 and you have your authentic engine start sequence.

the way they are numbered or more correctly designated from what i have read is engine#1 to whatever number engine from left wing to right in sequence.same today i think.

This was common on most bombers, Our Lanc for instance had the following configuration

You will note that power for the Turrets is also supplied via specific engines.Most of the other "services" had a manual pump option but I do think the Turrets dependency on the appropriate engines should really be modeled
