CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
« on: October 03, 2008, 12:24:45 PM »
ok guys well christmas is a couple a months away and i thought i would get this idea i had in early to see what you guys think.

ive been thinking of how we could have a bit of a special evening by making the main arena for 1 or 2 nights only, and very near christmas to have a snow terrain and for the arena to go into darkness at night times. i think this will get us all into the spirit and have a bit of fun before the 25th. what do you guys think?

please take note htc   :salute

Snow probably won't happen. I believe night time always happens on Christmas eve.

Yup, and HTC flies around as Santa. Hopefully I'll be on for Christmas Eve this year.

Sounds like that could go over veeery badly :uhoh.

But for the main topic, sounds like fun, but the problem is the frame rate hit the animation of snow would have on some peoples lower end PCs.  A snow ground terrain would be nice though, even if the falling snow can't happen.

Hopefully I will remember to stay up this X-mas Eve, missed the fun the past 2 years now. :aok

Frame rates are not affected with snow textures.

Really?  Even falling snow?  Seems an animation of that would, such as other Flight Sims with weather there is a small drop in FR from it, maybe i am just going delusional, which is a much better explanation. :O

Finally saw the Night Time Christmas Eve Special in the MA last year. It's a load of fun! HT as Sanata, plays on all countries in all arenas. He flies faster than a 163! He does slow down a bit though and you see your entire country winging up with him, and every enemy trying to shoot him down. If you can, stay up to see it, always great fun!.

Falling snow would cause a framerate hit but the arena textures changing wouldn't.

Love the idea, though I'm an atheist... (st... christmas spirit... :D)

BTW, there is a map with snow on it (Rhine, or something like it...)
