Hey Lazs,

I knocked the wings off a gnat at 650 yards with a .45 acp 185 SWC.     :rofl

WTG dago....    I shoot 230 grain slugs in my 45's that is probly what it wrong.    There isn't enough front site on any 45 auto I have found to lob one in at 400 yards.   I was still 20' low while aiming at the mountain peak in the background..  aiming at clouds I could lob one in.

I am no rifle shot..  If I can shoot 3 or four inch groups at 100 yards with open sights I am pleased.   I have shot some high powered scoped rifles that will shoot (even for me) less than fist sized groups at 200 yards and that is plenty good for me...   I am no sniper that is for sure.

Like hang..  every rifle I have seen shoots better than I can shoot it.   Sometimes it is the difference between some guy that takes a full minute to fire each round and then me cranking off three from the same gun and him putting every round in something that is easily covered with a quarter and me having a round outside the quarter but..   he is better.   standing up and getting 8 off with a garand tho..  I can hold my own.  even an old 8 mm mauser with lyman peep on it.

Handguns?  well.. I do pretty well.

As we have discussed before, if anything is past 100 yards away, it is time to shoot a rifle.  Shooting a handgun at 400 yards is just an exercise in wasting ammo.

If someone wants to shoot at handgun at me at 400 yards, I will surely giggle while I draw a bead with my iron sights on a rifle.

A handgun gives time to fight your way to your rifle. If there was ever a reason to walk though my door with a firearm with any appreciable chance of gunplay as the reason, I'll step though that door with my FAL. There's precious little 'cover' from a battle rifle that'll put the first aimed shot clear though a phone pole at 100 yards.. One aimed shot every 5 to 6 seconds means 10 downed targets every minute a rifleman is in action.

Return fire changes things from the timed fire / hit perspective. If all you are doing is shooting something that doesn't or can't shoot back then the statement holds.

spray and pray stands no chance against somebody that's methodically working in his field of expertise.

carrying a rifle around with you everywhere you go is not always practical..  owning a handgun, and being able to use it, that will shoot man sized targets with ease at 200 yards and make them stop... is a good skill to have.

With my FAL, if I can see it I can kill it (iron sights). With my K98 with Yugo scope Its fair game out to about 6 or 700 yards. Planted a buffalo at 100 yards, but I was shooting 200gr accubond with 45 grains of turkish military powder
