This is incredibly dumb. Why not just take the 20mm gun package?
The P-39Q doesn't have the 20mm gun package.

Ya.

Some examples of what I was refering to earlier as far as timing with 1 shot can be downloaded from this thread.

I remember a comment by a 350th FG P39 driver that I had a chance to talk to.  He said you could almost see the cannon shell drop as it came out of the cannon.  Sounds like it's modeled correctly :)

At least I can hit with german 30mms because of rate of fire.  For now M4 37mm to me is almost impossible.

Also, the plane seem pretty stable, but I'm worried about getting into spinl because of the engine placement.

Hey gixer.....maybe Im seeing this wrong . I was looking at your 5bag film. Your second kill is what I have a question about. I'm hoping my computer kept is screwed up or I have a bad download. I viewed the cockpit and slowed the film down to watch the hit on the spit. The cockpit started flashing as if you were firing, so I went external to watch the line up a little better. After the engagement I went back into the cockpit and your round count was the same as before you began the engagement. I couldnt tell what you had fired...the cannon or MG. Just trying to get clarification on which you fired during that engagement.

EDIT: Hprilla and Gunner82 are more clear but your round count stayed the same throughout the flight. I think my download of the film might be bad.

Any tips to master a gun that has a trajectory of a bowling ball?

Well, get close, and lead it a lil bit less than a 109's tater. Dont ever go for deflection shots unless you're low and slow. No matter what anyone says about the 39, it's a TnB plane. It just cant do any BnZ with that tater. Since they think you're the easiest to kill, try to drag someone out away from the group or take a wingman. Suprisingly, when I fly the 39, I tend to lead too much actually. I've reviewed films where it shows the bullets in front of the enemy, not behind them.  :salute

If you take the 4 .50s, use em all, dont just use the tater. If you're buff hunting, you need to be a good shot, (one hit on the engine sets it on fire, but you gotta try to not get shot by the gunner :(   )

Round counts get screwed up in the films, I only ever use the canon. MG is only for making targets break and chutes  :D

It's a pain for sure, but it's a super fun aircraft to fly.  The best I've done with it was in a vertical fight with Fugitive.  He was spiraling up 800 yards above and I let a single 37mm fly ahead of him... miraculously it found it's target.  It was total dumb luck, we both went LOL as it happened.  It's cool stuff like that that makes it fun.  Sure, you'll miss most shots with it but then there's that one crazy one that rewards ya and gets you to fly the 39 again.

I almost have more fun in the P39D.  Bronk and I were winging them at TT last night and had a ball in them.  It's such a unique aircraft and most people underestimate it so you can get a lot out of it.

I heard Soviets were the ones that only mastered the P39.  Some of the highest scoring allied aces flew 39s.

I wonder what kind of tactics they used...
