You guys flew very well last night. :salute  You also shot down a lot of our 109s. :furious

HAMMERR was lucky to escape.  We saw a dot above us in the direction he was running for home, and broke off because we didn't want to get engaged by high bandits for one Wildcat.  Reviewing the film, it turned out to be a foo-fighter. :lol

 :salute

Thank you sir. Considering the type of opponents we were up against I'm happy to have given as good as we got.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Actually it was 'trumpman' in an F4F. Guess you weren't close enough to have him recorded on your end (think you have to be within 10k or something). I was out of ammo save for my MG17's anyway.

Frame I was a bit of a CF for the Allies over the task group. We were divided into two flights: Red, led by me with five F4Fs, and Blue led by CpMorgan with four Wildcats. There were also a few Spitfires, I believe from the 412th. We were patrolling opposite ends of the carrier so were out of sight of each other. Blue managed to pull you guys down by the time Red arrived, giving us a slight altitude advantage (I was leading the second group of F4Fs that arrived late around 8000ft).

However Red Flight conceded our perch too early. I was too aggressive in trying to clear Blue and we didn't fight top-down like we should have. So instead of forcing your 109s down and bleeding out your energy so you couldn't put your climb rate and top speed to use, we let you get on top of us.

Sax, I had half of my schwarm up as a high cap over the fight in case some more came in.. (not technically half, I was leading a kette with Shamus and Vilkas, and had sent in PDM and Dogfart) we were at 10-15k IIRC... saw you guys coming in to the fight that was already going on, and dove down to you. Guess you didn't see us. Only 4 of us made it out, Gavagai, Boingg, Vilkas and I.

Every time I looked up there were more of those darn red icons above us.  But it was a super fight down low!
