Bf 109 G-2 "White 1" flown by Hptm. Wolfdieter Huy, Staffelkapitan of 7./JG77, 25 October 1942 in transit to North Africa.
This is a interesting aircraft. JG77 was always on the move. The words above and below the III Gruppen badge say "Wander-Zirkus Ubben" which means "Ubbens' Traveling Circus". This plane is captured by photograph soon after arrival in North Africa. It is still painted in the standard JG77 Eastern Front cammo, but the yellow theater markings on the fusalage have been painted over with green paint and the new theater markings for North Africa applied to the fusalage and wingtips. The rudder shows Huy's victories against ships and aircraft including a representation of the Knights Cross and Oak Leaves. Huy was flying this aircraft when four days later he shot down a spitfire for his 40th kill and was himself shot down and taken prisoner.
