Fiat G.55 Centauro
« on: October 08, 2008, 03:20:50 PM »
General characteristics

    * Crew: One
    * Length: 9.37 m (30 ft 9 in)
    * Wingspan: 11.85 m (38 ft 10 in)
    * Height: 3.13 m (without the antenna mast) (10 ft 3¼ in)
    * Wing area: 21.11 m² (227.23 ft²)
    * Empty weight: 2,630 kg (5,798 lb)
    * Loaded weight: 3,520 kg (7,760 lb)
    * Max takeoff weight: 3,718 kg (8,197 lb)
    * Powerplant: 1× Fiat R.A 1050 Tifone (license-built Daimler-Benz DB 605A-1) liquid-cooled inverted V-12, 1,085 kW (1,475 hp)

Performance

    * Maximum speed: 623 km/h (387 mph, 337 knots) at 7,000 m (22,970 ft)
    * Range: 1,200 km or 1,650 km with two 100 liter (26.4 US Gal) drop tanks under wings (627 miles, 545 NM (or 1,025 mi, 891 NM with drop tanks ))
    * Service ceiling 12,750 m (41,830 ft)
    * Wing loading: 154.0 kg/m² (34.15 lb/ft²)
    * Power/mass: 0.308 kW/kg (0.190 hp/lb)
    * Climb to 7,000 m (22,970 ft): 8.57 min

G.55 Serie I:

    * Three x 20 mm Mauser MG 151/20 cannons, one engine-mounted (250 rounds) and two wing-mounted (200 rounds each)
    * Two x 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns in the upper engine cowling (300 rounds each)
    * Provision for two 160 kg (353 lb) bombs on underwing racks. (N.B. Egyptian and Syrian aircraft used Machine guns in the wings instead of cannon.)

With only the C.202 and C.205 I believe this would at least give the FSO and Events more of an option for Aces High. Although not many were built, and I agree completely other aircraft like He-111 or Do-17 needs to be added first, however I am looking at the Late War arena being the primary arena for this aircraft, and it would get plenty of uses. Perhaps even adding a drop tank to C.205 would see it flown considerably more, The G.55 would be an excellent edition to Italian aircrafts in the game.

Sm.79 or Sm.84 would be nice with the G.55 to. :noid

The sooner, the better. Not only is the Regia Aeronautica the least represented airforce in AH, but contrary to all other powers, it does not have its best design modeled at all. The Centauro is long overdue.

The main stay of this plane is practically another buff hunter at 15k, it won't overpower most planes and had a poor ratio against allied fighters, simply
they had no skilled pilots, however if germans recommend this plane to be better then 109g6 at time, I would like to see what it could do in game, would definally be a great edition to Late War Arenas and scenarios.

Any new Axis stuff would be great. However Axis buffs should be first.

I agree, the SM.79 first, then the G.50 or Re2002, then the SM.82 Marsupiale, then the G.55 or Re2005 (yes, i know it was even more rare than the G.55).

I have wanted this plane since I first started flying Aces High too many years ago.  I have even started a thread or two requesting it.  However, I also think some more Axis bombers would be nice, especially some Italian ones.

How about updating the Macchi's first?

  the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Yes i defenitly agree with u there. they need to remodel and equip them with Drop Tanks and ordnace as they really did. When i am on i am flying the M.C.205 98% of the time.

I think the CR.42 needs adding before anything else for the Italians, especially for scenarios.  Wasn't that the most numerous type used by Italy during WWII?

The C.200 & G.50 are both more important than the G.55 IMO.
