I think you can download free stuff to make targets on your printer. Tape it to a carboard box and shoot 'em up.

I always like shooting old laundry detergent bottles... the thicker plastic can take hundreds of hits before it needs to be replaced.

Slap a target on it and you're golden

I make target backstops for my IZH46 Kalishnikof air pistol the following way.

How ever large you want your backstop, say 12 X12 make layers of material. I cut out a 1/2 inch 12 x 12 peice of plywood. On top of it either a phone book wrapped with duct tape or about 3 inches of card board sheets. You can replace those as they get chewed up. Print out a target and tape it to the back stop.

I used to do the same thing with a .22 pistol, but that was after I got divorced (or was it why I got divorced? I forget)

Seriously though, if you're making a backstop , and you can keep it dry, I'd use MDF instead of plywood. Much denser and won't splinter. If it's gonna get wet then stay away from MDF.

I used to take styrofoam ( molded styrofoam for packing stuff ) and glue them together to make forts and bunkers. I'd even paint them camo colors.
Then i'd make a hundred or so little "soldiers" out of red modeling clay and paint uniforms on them.
Then i'd put them in little cubbies and nooks of the enemy "bunker"

Of course, i shot everything to hell.  
The bbs make realistic looking shell hits on the styrofoam and the red clay splatters everywhere when a soldier is hit.

I used a standard packing box (about 2ft by 2ft), filled with crumpled newspaper to catch led fragments.  The real pellet stop inside however was a couple of old phone books that I placed in the middle of the box, held in place by a bit of tape and wedged in by the crumpled newspaper.

The main consideration with this kind of target is you can only shoot it from the front or back, unless you line the entire box with phone books.  Lining the box directly with phone books increases the chance that lead fragments will escape however.  I wanted the pellets to penetrate to the center of the box and then get stopped in the middle by the phone books, and the paper would keep the fragments from working their way back out of the entrance holes.

Other than having to shoot it only from the front or back, the other main drawback is that it's a bit of a hazardous waste dump after shooting it with a few thousand pellets.  If you remove any targets from it before putting it into the trash however, the trash guys will probably still pick it up when you toss it out.

2 packing boxes 2' X 2'

2 old wool army blankets (couple of bucks at a surplus store) or any other small blankets you don't mind trashing. A stack of old beach towels works well too.

1 roll duct tape

knife/scissors

Cut the 4 side panels out of 1 box. Place one panel on the ground and fold one army blanket so it fits over the panel. Lay anouther panel over the blanket. Fold the second blanket and put that over the second panel, and cover with a third panel. Duct tape the whole mess so it stayes together. Shove all of that inside the other box. Put a target on the side of the box and shoot. Also works well for bow and arrow as long as your not shooting broad heads.
