used that set up when it was posted before. did not improve my sysrem as much as the nhancer does. but like people, each system is a little different and what works for one may not work for another.

Valid point.

However, Nhancer does nothing but make settings for you.  If you can figure out what those settings need to be, you do not need Nhancer.  My biggest beef with it (as Chalenge points out) is it adds yet another process (as if 30 some-odd is not enough!!!) to your system doing something you can do yourself.

I will grant you that Nhancer is an excellent way to learn what Antialiasing, Anisotropic filter, and all that other "Greek" means.   I loaded it up, used it for research and then uninstalled it once I got my "video legs."

Sorry Flotsom, I shouldn't have come across so negative in my first post.  Nhancer certainly plays a role but you should work to shed the "training wheels" before you consider your video tweaking complete.

and i sir return your valid point!!

i have installed the 178 update for nvidia so i have had to uninstall nhancer.

one thing that nhancer did give me the capability of doing was to edit the preset profiles of nvidia in a manner that you cannot do without it. but now it is time to move into the big boys world of video tunning and figure out how to get the most out of my video card without the training wheels.

in the last 24 hours or so i have managed to lock up my compuetr and have to do a system restore at the least 5 times. not all due to nvidia, but mostly. i have reached a conclussion, they should call it error by trial instead of trail and error!!!!!!!!!!

but i think i have made some headway. course i now have to re-install Aces High to find out. (corrupted the video files.......oops!)

as far as the number of services running goes.......i am begining to believe that this is more myth than perfomance aid. i had my process count down to 10!!!!! 10 !!!!!!!!!! and i was still having problems!!

what i have concluded is that what may be a much better way of doing things is to allow the programs to turn on normally then exit the program (not send to system tray, but exit and end it) by using a program such as enditall2, then use a memory recovery tool such as casheman to recover memory from your ram cashe ect. then you remove those srvhost without leaving the empty shell still pinging the cpu looking for the proigram. like i said this MAY be an alternative route to go. if it seams to be working i will post it and let people know the settings and the program i use.

i thank you all for your advice and the loan of your wisdom.

take care and happy tunning

This was a very good thread on setting up a Nivida card in AH :salute

very good thread indeed!!!!

but if you are using the newest Nvidia update 178.## then it will only do you marginal use. the newsest update has changed a couple of allowable profile modification to the aces high built in profile. for the most part use the set up as defined by homeboy in the thread listed above and youll one or two of the old settings are no longer there and youll see a couple of new listed settings you can change as well. cant give you any real insight on what to set them at, mine is still a work in progress.

if i come up with anything ill be sure to post it.

hey all
nvidia has a new update 178.24

it clears up some of the issues from the last update. i installed it tonight. seems to be working fine. saved my previouse profiles and am using them with the update.

did have to reset the settings for aces high in the predefined profiles. no biggy though i just used the set up as depicted in this thread.

remember to uninstall and then use a driver cleaner before installing the update.

good luck

If you set up your video with the settings shown here, you will get maximum results from your Nvidia card.

hey all
nvidia has a new update 178.24

If you are running Vista 64 and using eVGA GeForce 8 series cards this 'update' will DE-optimize your system. The best drivers are available from eVGA.com directly (178.13).
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

are these just the personally adjustable settings or are these the hardwired nonadjustable settings that it DE-optimizes?

i use windows XP sp3 so i didn't realize that it may be an issue for vista users.

Check with your video cards manufacturer for the latest drivers and not Nvidia is the best advice I can give.

if you right click on your desk top a drop down window will appear. in that window you will see Nvidia Control panel. click on it. when the control panel appears click on view in the upper left corner, make sure you have a dot next to advanced. then click on the "adjust image settings with preview" in the upper left corner. then in the middle right of that page click on use the advanced 3d image settings. then click on "take me there". when that page appears click on the tab that says program settings. check the box that says show only programs found on this computer. click on the arrow next to the box above the box you just checked. aces high will be on that list somewhere. click on it and it will loadf those setting. then go down the list making the adjustments needed.  click apply at the bottom right of the page to save your changes. should be allset after that.

did you set the correct resolution in the aces high? if you didnt set that correctly then that is more likely your problem than the settings in nvidia.

send a message to skuzzy and ask for his advice. if anybody knows how to fix your issue it will be him.  look through any technical post and you should find a post that he has made. his e-mail address is in his signature line.

good luck

Would be nice if it fixed my WMV codec issues.

Well, if you're looking for a good conversion software, SUPER, imo, is one of the best out there... and it's free!
I've had to use it a few times to change some of those pesky .mp4 files. :D Fiddle with it for a few minutes - heads up, it saves the converted files in the program file, just so you don't spend a half hour looking for them like I. :D
