Mute mic under playback in the volume control panel is what skuzzy ment just in case u didn't.  Also when in the volume control panel, go to options and select properties.  Select record and hit ok.  Makesure mic is selected by a check mark in the box.  Move slider to at least 3/4 up.  If u don't have a advance button under the mic selection then go to options and select advance controls.  U should have a advance button under the mic selection.  Click on it and select 20db boost.  Then get out of the control panel and u all set.
