Halloween/passin out
« on: October 18, 2008, 10:19:45 PM »
this halloween is gonna be a super busy 1, Fridays are the best..
built, made, and decorated the house A LOT
made my neighbors look bad

passin out

Iv cut myself on my thumb with a box cutter today and didn't really hidrate enough, it was long and bleeding more than a usual cut so my parents thought iv may have needed stitches but wasn't that deep really, my mother (who's a nurse) said that, and it really wasn't that bad its just long and in a place were it bleeds a lot.

Now here's the thing, I'm sitting down applying pressure. then i get super lightheaded and dissy and am confused because
Its not the first time or the worst iv  been cut by accident and its not even really painful
I didn't even lose enough blood to pass out or go dissy yet..
I'm starting to get worried and tell my mom she says "lie Down" so i do so even more worried because when you here her tell you to do that its not good
Then like that I'm out...  Let me tell ya waking up is the most painful part. I start to hear voices but cant make them out and i felt this real painful feeling in my head at the tune of pulse. I start to make up the voices, its my father saying my name, then i open my eyes to respond I'm alright and am just like what the heck just happened cuz you don't remember falling asleep

my mother told me my heartrate must have went down to 30 and my eyes went to the back of my head...
very weird feeling, i forgot what she told me it was called but it sometimes happenens when u give somebody an IV,
they don't panic, there not sensitive to seeing wounds, and they don't lose a lot of blood..
yet they pass out..

About 10% of people pass out at the sight of blood or open wounds (men more than women).

There's also quite a few who get dizzy but don't pass out.  No big deal unless you want to be a medic or doctor...

For a knife cut I highly recommend superglue/cyanoacrilate.  Seriously, it was designed as a surgical glue.  I've used it on cuts hundreds of times.  I even use it on my kids' cuts.

I have a friend that literally had an anxiety attack with the symptoms of shock (cold, clammy, white as a sheet, rapid and shallow breathing, high heart rate, dilated pupils; you name it.

Why? All because he had a splinter in his foot, granted it was about 1/2 an inch long.

I cut the outer edge of my hand once and blood was all over the place. I was being dumb and walking around and laughing letting it drip while I went to find the duct tape. My whole hand was literally cover in blood then I felt a little light headed and told my buddie I didn't feel to good. Next them I know hes over me slapping me on the face telling me to wake up. I'm not squeamish around blood the only thing I could guess was my BP drop fast with the blood loss and I fainted. When I came to I patched it up and went and sat down and drank some sugar water and put a towel soaked will cold water on my forhead. Felt a little dizzy for about an hour then I was good to go.

It's called vasovagal (or neurocardiogenic) syncope. A certain trigger (or in your case an emotional event) causes your parasympathetic nervous system to become over-activated, which makes your heart rate drop. Also your sympathetic nervous system become inhibited, causing your blood vessels to dilate, which makes your blood pressure bottom out. The end result is your brain doesn't get enough blood flow to keep functioning, and you pass out (similar to G-LOC).

The brain, being one of the more selfish organs, realizes it's not getting enough blood and quickly takes over to restore your heart rate and blood pressure before there's any permanent damage.

Although, in some cases there's a permanent impairment in the ability to communicate effectively in the written language.

LOL on the ending!
And great info too!  Thanks.

I've got a knife sticking out of my chest. My wife is yelling me because instead of going to the hospital I felt that I needed to come to the boards and give you guys an update. I've lost alot of blood, I'm light headed and it hurts to breath, but I just couldn't leave you guys out of the loop.

My last emergency first aid consisted of paper towels and duct tape till i got to the house. Then a  twice daily wash with peroxide, light coat of super glue and fresh large bandaid. Healed in about 2-3 weeks.
The wound....just above first joint on my ring finger i sliced my finger about cutting off my finger print pad. Could have used stitches but i'm a cheap sob and i have a real hate/fear of hospitals.
I only got light headed when i at first washed it out with straight medical alcohol. Not recommended for the faint of heart and it's also best to be sitting down if you do it. :O

I saved a ton money using this method. It's tried and true.
