Am I wasting my time flying the Unterplanes(tm)?
« on: February 20, 2001, 04:15:00 PM »
Is the scoring ever going to reflect the differences between aircraft when determining perk points? I'm trying to build up my fighter perk points by flying the lesser aircraft(Spit9, La-5, C.205), hoping to cash in on some hapless P-51 and Chog pilots.

I had thought I saw where Pyro described how the scoring would work, where a pilot flying a C.205 that shoots down a Chog would get big perk points, and the Chog pilot that shoots down a C.205 would get few perk points.

Is this going to be implemented, or should I just grab a Chog and kill with impunity?

I'd say go with the uberdeathride earlier I was working a pony off my 205's tail, nice long hard job, finally get him out in front, hoping my crappy stick will give me one decent shot, BLAM! he's dead Jim, and the uber ride that took the candy outta my mouth climbs gracefully away.
Actually, I begin to see perk points as a "bad idea"
give a few people the cutting edge death crates, and a lot of us disadvantaged slobs will be giving up a lot of kills, enough to make us reconsider our investment in the game, I know I'm not going to pay good money to watch the other guy have fun. I'm not pointing fingers at folks, you play to win under the rules as they stand, fair 'nuff.
But the multiplayer concept requires a few more winners in the arena to work, and IMHO, perks are going to lower that number, not increase it.
Don't think HTC's gonna listen to me 'tho and sure as hell the "stop whining" crowd won't, but hey, enjoy, hope you don't run outta targets.

It is implemented now.
shoot down a 10 point plane in a 40 point plane and it is worth 4 perk points. Land it and its 5. The reverse is worth .25 perk points.

Well, in theory it works but in practice it does not.

Of course you get more fighter perks in killing lesser plane but this effect is negated by the fact that ground attack points are added to fighter points.

For example you were able to (not sure if its possible anymore since fighter OBJ values changed) rack up 50 fighter perk points by hitting training factory during a single mission. Now, how many 1C's you must kill in C.202 to get such number of perk points? And which thing is easier to accomplish?

Fighter air-to-air and air-to-ground needs to be separated somehow, otherwise perk idea is not going to have effect since you can get perk fighter just by killing ground stuff and then nobody bothers to fly lesser planes.

It does work in practice, there are just a few bugs in it.

This is true, but the problem with the perk point system already released is that if you spend the same amount of time doing jabo attacks on undefended grunt facilities you will get 10 times that number of Fighter perk points. Yes those are Fighter Perk Points you earn with those Jabo's.

As a result you can either fly and have fun, or go for perk points by doing boring jabo runs. The guy doing the boring easy jabo runs will have an almost unlimited number of perk points to spend as compared to your more realistic perk points earned the way it was intended.

ya.there are some bugs.
Take advantage of them till they are squashed if you will, but the fundimentals of the perk system have worked splendidly in the MA I think. Way more diversity.

IMO, by flying all a/c types, is not a waste of time, it only makes you a better pilot by knowing the quirks of all A/C, especially when scenario's come around.

LOL! Really?  I still see quite a few Chogs and Niks (I not here to whine about it since I couldnt care less) but what IS nice is that it has gotten me to try out some of the other planes I normally wouldnt futz with.

That Spit5 is a damn nice plane...

TURN WITH ME NIKI!
