they don't pay if they use school lunches ?
Yes, the parents have the option of paying for a school provided lunch. I'm hard pressed to believe that (in Texas no less!) that a school district doesn't allow a child to pack their own lunch.

One local district won't allow homemade lunches. Everything must be labeled for nutrition (i.e. Lunchables). My sister had a spasm over that one.
I've heard of that for in-classroom, let's share cupcakes with everyone (like classroom christmas parties, or halloween parties or whatever)... but not for an individual child's own lunch.

The companies handed contracts to provide school food are the same companies that are contracted to provide prison food.

Not in my state.  In house lunch ladies.  Take that up with your legislators.

We need to head back to the 80's and classify Ketchup and Relish as a vegetable, that should get them stirred up.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

They by their Salisbury Steaks, Chicken Sandwiches and Tater Tots from food purveyors just like every other school, hospital, restaurant.

I worked in a Nursing Home for 2 Years as a Cook and Dietary Aide.

They eat the same stuff I ate in School when I was a kid. So if you liked School lunches get ready, because when your old and can't take of yourself, you'll get to relive all those great school lunches you ate as a kid, only this time they might be pureed.

That is insane.  I do not want the school district dictating what is nutritional to me and my kids.  I am picky about what my kids eat.

Already said I thought you were referring to the prep, not the distributors.

Hell, Sysco provides to the schools and half the restaurants people eat out at too.
