Lag problems
« on: October 24, 2008, 09:50:26 PM »
I need help solving my lag problems.  I seem to lag most when I get close to big groups of people or when I try to talk over my mic.  I'm not sure but I think the problem might be that when I try to talk, to much is going on and I freeze up but I'm not really sure, so I was wondering how can I fix this problem?

Try reducing the sound card priority from Full to 3/4 in DXDIAG (Start->Run->DXDIAG), under the "Sound" tab.  It sounds like your computer has an onboard sound chip.

I've always reduced hardware acceleration with my dedicated sound chips on any of my creative soundblaster series cards as well.

It doesn't matter as much on a sound card as they have there own processors. On board sound uses the CPU taking away from other things causing the delays and stutters. However, if you wish to try it out, run the Dxdiag, and click on the sound tab. You can adjust it there. There is another place to adjust it that I can just never remember how to get to it so I always go through the DXdiag.

Post a dxdiag of your computer..... well the first third of the report. Some of these gurus might be able to help you tweak it a bit to get the most out of it.

run dxdiag, and in the bottom of that window, click the save information. Open that document, and cut and paste the first third of the info here. It should give us enough info to suggest some tweaks you could try.

You cut off a good chunk of the first part, but it looks like its a laptop, and not a very strong one at that.

First thing, hit cntrl, alt, delete and click on the "processes" tab. My worklaptop came in running something like 65. This is wayyyyy too many. I picked up AlacrityPC. Its a free program that is very easy to setup to shutdown unneeded processes and start the game. After your done playing and close out the game the processes are restarted. I got mine down to 20

Second thing, with the top page of the page cut off I don't know what you have for a processor, but your graphics card is weak. This is the same setup as my video card too. What I did was to turn the textures in the game down to 128 (in the video tab on the clipboard when you start the game), and made sure it didn't preload anything. Then in the game I disabled other players skins, and in the graphics tab I set the slider almost all the way over to "faster".

With this setup I can run the laptop in the 20-30 fps area and the game is very playable. FLight sims are very hard on computers. Your laptop is a weak unit so it sputters and stalls, choking on the info that has to be processed. By turning everything down the game is still playable, but not quit as pretty.

Good luck!

correct. A 5 year old computer is a antique !   :D  As long as your cpu is fast enough you should be able to tweak it enough to be playable....pretty, well that always cost more  :aok

The Intel video chip is going to be part of the performance issue.  It looks like one of the older Intel video chips and only has access to 64MB of RAM.

You need to minimize the game resources as well.  Turn the "Maximum Texture Size" in the game's "Video Settings" to 128.  Set the game resolution, no higher than 1024x768.  That might help some, but you should also disable skins in the game as well.

This computer is going othave to be running very lean and clean as well.  Check your background processes at the Windows desktop (Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager, select the "Processes" tab).  You will want this computer to only have around 19 to 21 processes in order to have a shot of playing the game okay.
