A Better Default Skin for the Panzer.

DARN IT ALL.

I just hung up with Roy.  He stated that since the Panzer's production numbers in WWII were such that most came with the Desert Camo,
HTC will not be changing the default skin.    .

I still say we should be able to change that default.  But then I might be urinating up foliage too.   

So there ya go fellas.  We tried.

Let's clarify this. 

It is not my call to make.  All I can do is pass it on.

To my knowledge, there is no discussion about changing the default skin for anything at the moment.  That does not mean there is not something happening the dark depths of the developers corner.  It means I am not privvy to it.

I believe that the desert tan/yellow, was the primer
color from the factory.. I think that changed several times
during the course of the war.. Near the end, no paint at all...

Guys in the field, (railheads) would splatter them with
whatever camo was mandated by the unit... At the
same time they were checked out, assigned a crew,
loaded w ammo and supps, etc...

I've also read that some vehicles were equipped w paintspray
setup.. So they could change cammo on battlefield...
Very forward thinking!

Ah well, Panzer grey would have been nice...

< Snipped > Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf H tanks were issued to Panzer Regiments in Panzer Divisions and were used in that role to the end of the war. On June 6th of 1944, majority of Panzerkampfwagen IV tanks present in France were Ausf H.

I doubt much of any of those were in desert camo. Our MA Terrain being based on mostly French Farmland ( I think ), seems strange we have a default skin from a desert terrain.

How about they disable the ability to disable the skins while in GV's?  That way your skin you choose in the hanger is the one everyone sees.  The tiger default is a easy to see color too.

If I'm not mistaken, one can substitute their "default" skin for another skin that is available, therefore making THAT skin the default.

I just forget how to do it.

Von, I think the issue is that people disable skins so that they only see the default on the other guy's tank.  That way it's super easy to see a bright orange panzer vs the camo skin the other people see.

I think you can do that also.  I recall something about seeing all pink spits for Christmas............

Ya Von.  If you right click when you are chosing skins you can make whatever skin you just chose your default for STARTUP of that vehicle/plane.

However, like Anaxorgoras said, we're talking about the Game Default skin in regards to the plane, vehicle, what have you, as if you had not downloaded any skins.  It just so happends that the Game Default skin on the Tiger, and the Panzer is a bright orange "Hey fellas shoot me Im here in the trees trying to hide but cant because of this orange skin I have on that you can see because your disable skins feature from your graphics menu is turned off" color.   

So therefore when you are stuck in Panzers because of eny, you might as well just fold up your GV plans for the evening, and go home.

UNLIKE the awesome protection you have in a Firefly (Sherman) with the camo scheme it has.

German vehicles were painted dark grey up to February 1943, apart from the Afrika Korps which used various shades of brown. The dark grey worked quite well in the French campaign, but was not suitable for the Eastern Front Steppes. The tank crews often painted mud over their vehicles to make them blend in more.

Because of that from Feb 43 the base AFV colour from the factories was standardised as dark yellow, the light brown shade you see on most of the default German AFV skins in AH. Front line units were supplied with red brown and dark green paints that could be applied over the dark yellow base colour as needed. In 1945 the base colour was changed to dark green and the dark yellow and red brown were supplied as extra colours.

Now our Panzer IV is an Ausf H. The H first appeared in April 1943, months after the dark grey scheme was discontinued so the dark yellow camo is correct for that version of the tank.

The complaint about that is, the opposing team that use default skins, can see the panzer almost like bright orange compared to the other tanks. No matter what skin you choose.
