voice radio

hello guys
Just new to ah although I do have limited experience in warbirds. What I seem to be having trouble with is using the voice radio. I hold f12 down and say "can I have a radio check" followed by much silence so I assume its not working. Can someone help me with a trouble shoot as this may very well check your 6 for you one day.

OK, I read the link on how to setup your radio, but I still have 1 question.

In order to get the window up that shows the "t" and "f12" channels I have to have my radio bar up also, if I close my radio bar, the vox window closes and no one can hear me.

Is that the way it is supposed to work?  I would like to be able to use vox without having both the radio bar and the vox box cluttering my display.

No, vox doesn't have anything to do with the radio bar being open/closed. The only difference is if the radio bar is open and the text cursor is there, any button press will be entered there, even f12 (though it won't do anything).

The only thing that vox has to do with the radio bar is to select the channel to broadcast on.  Otherwise just press and hold T for Tuned vox transmisison or F12 for Range vox transmission.

You tested it by tuning to yourself?

Also remember F12 is for range chat.  If no one is physically near you, they are out of range and won't hear you.   Open your radio window, and see if there is another name under the purple word "range".  If not, then no one is close enough to hear you.  If there is another name, and they still dont reply, they may not have a mike.

Another trick I learned is if you open the radio window, and the check, and then uncheck the AFK box, it will allow you to keep the window open and still hit keys without putting it in the text bar.  (Nothing more frustrating than seeing TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT fill the text bar).  If you do want to type something you will have to click your mouse in the text window to get the flashing cursor back.

Chat does work regardless of the window being open or closed if tuned correctly, or if using range someone is near enough to hear.  I open and close the window occasionally just to see who is in range, or tuned to the T channel I'm on.

Right, but you don't even have to mess with the AFK box, just click somewhere on that panel there.

One step that solves a lot of problems providing your using Windoze if to fire up the sound troubleshooter in Control Panel. I found once its working there it always works in the game.

I could not get F12 to work because my Track IR captured F12 for centering.  You would have to remap your range key.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one...  my TIR center key is the ~ key.
