Congrats to Hamilton
« on: November 03, 2008, 10:59:38 AM »
Surprised none of you Brits have said anything.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton who managed to win the Formula 1 championship yesterday.

Was one of the better F1 races I have seen in a while. The championship came down to the very last corner on the very last lap. :aok

We're still waiting on the FIA to figure out a way to give the title to Ferrari.

The FIA doesn't have to as Ferrari won the Manufacturer's Championship easily.

He'll probably get home to find a brand new SLR in his driveway.

Yes, congrats to Lewis, those final few laps were terrific entertainemnt. Bad luck Massa, seems a nice chap.

I read that the other Toyota, also on dry tyres, did the same final lap time so I dont see any conspiracy

I don't understand the conspiracy theories. With 7 laps to go Glock was in 7th place, 20 seconds behind Hamilton, and completely out of the picture. Because Hamilton (and everybody else who wasn't driving a Toyota) came in for tyres, Glock passed him in the pits.

If there's been some conspiracy, all Glock would have had to do would be come in for tyres, just like everybody else. He'd have come out 20 seconds behind Hamilton and wouldn't have been in a position to challenge him.

Toyota took a simple gamble, that the time they gained by not pitting would be greater than the time they lost by running the last few laps on the wrong tyres. It actually worked in that Glock finished in 6th, rather than 7th, and 4 seconds behind Hamilton, rather than the 20 seconds he'd been behind when everyone started changing tyres.

True enough, but who really cares about the manufacturers' championship.

I wish open wheel racing would become more popular in America.
