This is a TSA rules discussion thread.  No reason to try and make it political bud.

Back OT, this is a shame!  Are the rules proposed to attempt to prevent kamikaze style attacks from private planes or something?

Not sure what the danger of old warbirds are. Unless TSA is concerned that they will be armed and made combat ready.

Pretty underhanded the way the TSA has gone about this if you ask me, and a waste of money to boot.

If they keep making all these rules to protect us there will be nothing left to protect.

Why do I get the sinking feeling that merely disagreeing with you here, or saying anything at all, would be a violation of the forum rules?! :rofl

I think this is a very appropriate topic with, and I agree with you, political undertones. But, this is not an Us vs. Them partisan discussion that will have every hatemonger crawling out of the wood work.

Continuing on. I just submitted a letter to my Senator who happens to be a committee member and a Combat Vet.

I went to the Wings of Freedom tour here in Massachusetts. It was a blast. I'd really hate to see those beauties get parked for good.

This isn't just about "warbirds."  This is about ANY GA aircraft over 12,500 lbs.
Good news is that it has been pushed back 60 days from the original 12/29/08 date set to be heard on Capitol Hill.
Go to the Collings Foundation site and follow the links to post your feelings and write your elected officials.

I had to read the actual TSA text to understand what they were talking about. The Collings Foundation was ambiguous to say the least..

The Warbird tours should be given an exemption to the new guidelines, it just doesn't work.

They would have to finger print anyone that works on or is part of the flight crew.

They would have to check all passengers through a watch list, even for a 15 minute ride.

They would have to under go numerous audits to ensure security at different locales.

edit: several e-mails sent to the politicians (is it against forums rules to even mention that?)

Another useless notice of proposed rule making. Just like making the DC ADIZ permanent. I mean, anyone can put a Lancair together in his garage - throw a mini gun in the wing root just outside the prop-arc and be more interesting then anyone flying something over 12,500 Gross Wgt.

Its ALOT easier than that.....getting a light plane is far to easy and who knows what you can put in the back seat.

Yeah. Of course, why bother packing a car with about a tonne of TNT and driving it in relative obscurity to cause an enormous amount of damage and kill dozens of people when you can, at great risk of getting caught, steal a light plane, put a couple of hundred kilos of TNT in it at the most and then fly in a highly conspicuous manner to your target causing a litlte bit of damage maybe killing one or two people.
Makes perfect sense to me.
