I'm stumped...
« on: November 07, 2008, 06:20:41 PM »
bought a athlon xp 3200 chip installed it into my A7N8X-X now have nothing but problems. If i run the chip the way it should be run at 200mhz my pc feaks out and gives me a BSOD with this error attached:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP:0x0000000A (0xFC82A488, 0x00000001, 0x0000000, 0x80470DD)

My first thoughts where that it might be my memory running at a lower speed but I recently bought some Corsair Memory that brought all my sticks up to PC3200.

So far Ive reset my CMOS, adjusted BIOS settings, and ran a complete PSU and MEMchk. My power supply is good and my memory is good. Im wondering if ive jacked my BIOS settings up or something.

Today, 11/7, i got a new error message, not a BSOD but this, BCCode:1000008e, BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: BF845B6C BCP3: B54816D0 BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 3_0 Product: 256_1

Any help would be greatly appreciated

BTW: If i run the system at a lower clock rate it seems to be somewhat stable but soon as I hit the 200mhz then the problems start.

Sys Specs:
OS = WinXP Pro SP3
Mobo = Asus A7N8X-X w/latest BIOS update 1010
CPU = AMD Athlon XP 3200
Power Supply = Antec 500watt
Memory = 1x CORSAIR D400 CMX1024-3200C2 and 2x Corsair VS512MB400C3 = 2gig
VidCard = Nvidia GeForce 7800GS
SoundCard = SoundBlaster Live! (yeah i know its old as hell but it works) Drivers are up to date also
HDs = Primary OS drive - 12gig Secondary - 20gig and a third external 150gig
Other Media = Two DVDs one 4 burning the other for playback
Plenty of cooling fans also (5)

If I am not mistaken, this error is common when you "upgrade" windows.   Either way, you may have to flash BIOS to eliminate this error, or do a fresh install.

I'll digress to allow other commentary.

Think Mash has the answer.......

I'm thinkin your old CPU base files (WinXP) and your new CPU base files (WinXP) probably don't mix?

WinXP is SETUP (for speed n such like stuff?) to run a different CPU then you now have installed?

So a reinstall or repair may fix it but?????

Skuzzy would probably know?

Those errors look to be caused by conflict of files.  When exactly are you getting the error?  Does it appear before or after the boot into windows?

The first thing is to ensure you have the proper CPU drivers from the manufacturer.  Some are shipping with vista drivers only now and you have to dl the xp drivers from the website.

It should also be common practice if you intend to upgrade CPU or Ram to make sure you have the latest version of BIOS for your board.  As upgrades are made to technology BIOS can be upgraded to run with higher RAM and CPUs

With the exception of certain hotfixes for certain CPU's.  There are no need for 'drivers' for a CPU.  I'm not terribly familiar with AMD CPU's, but I do recall that didn't they have multiple CPU names for their speed Rating.  I.e  There was a Barton 2600+ and a Thoroughbred 2600+?  I believe some motherboards were picky to their families.  I vaguely remember something with my in-laws computer a few years back.  I'm sure someone could correct me on this.

 Alrighty, just a little update...After many many hours of installing and re-installing XP I finally got it to do MOST of the things its supposed to do correctly. The machine is fully updated to SP3  :rock

 BUT, as I post this Ive come to a crossroads. Most of the games released in the past couple of months require an "UP-2-DATE" machine. For instance I went out and bought Ubi's "Assassin's Creed" for $20. This game has been out for awhile but as I sat down and read over the system specs my mouth dropped. Finding out that my "new" system that i built not but 2 years ago is failing miserably. Anyways, Here is my delima. Do i constantly try to play the catch up game with the PC world or do I just give in and get a freakin XboX and just use my PC for Flight Sims and internet Pr0n?

You may have built the box just two years ago, but that motherboard is 5 or 6 years old at this point. I built this PC using the same board when AH1 was still live, and AH2 was only in beta.

The motherboard was released Q3/Q4 of 2003.  That's 5 years ago.  You may have upgraded your video card and CPU 2 years ago, but your system is still running slower bus speeds and still have AGP video card and IDE drives.

I built my current machine 2 years ago come January.  Other than adding 2 more gb of ram, upgraded the sound card, and added another hard drive, it's still pretty much the same system.  I can still play a lot of the new games at a fairly high level.

Other than a Wii, I don't see myself ever owning an Xbox or PS3 for my main gaming.  I'd rather use my computer as an all-in-one system (gaming, work, design, personal) than own a computer for internet whatever, game on console.  I don't care what anyone says, FPS are leaps and bounds better using a mouse and keyboard than an analog stick and a gamepad.

The first mentions of the A7N8X series boards (specifically driver issues, and new builds) on this forum date back to November of 02.

If you want to stay someone current hardware wise, plan on building a new PC every 3 years.

Figure you'll use old DVD drives, mouse, keyboard, monitor.

5- 700$ should build you a pretty decent system if you take the time to educate yourself ahead of time.
Don't buy cutting edge, don't buy budget, but middle of the road.

The old system can be given to someone for light duty, such as surfing and email.
Or you can keep it hooked up to the net for downloading porn, etc.
But after 3 years of gaming and flying AH its really going to be ready for the pasture.

Wouldn't matter, RAM speeds will auto-clock down if necessary.

Some (many?) AMD systems can't handle having 3 sticks of memory installed, at least at 1T.  The solution is to use only matched memory, and run the memory timings at 1T only if you are using at most 2 sticks of ram.

If your memory is set to 1T timings, drop it to 2T and see what happens.  If it's still unstable, remove the un-matched memory stick and see if it works any better.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
