Google is your friend.

There are tons of programs for webdesign. One of the easiest is Microsoft Frontpage(may not be the best).

FrontPage has been discontinued by MS it has been replaced since FrontPage makes garbage code.  Dreamweaver is a professional program from Adobe.  What are you trying to do, then some of us can guide you better.

Some web-hosts also provide their own tools for helping you design your web-site. So you might not require web-design software.

Or if you're like me, you don't need code-generating software at all.

I haven't looked into the HTML editor market for yeard since the industry standard is Dreamweaver (for the most part).  For someone wanting to put together a simple page, it may be overkill and over their knowledge.

Back in the day I used to use Adobe PageMill... it was very easy to use but that was about 10 years ago.  Don't even know if they still make it.

[EDIT]  Looks like you can get it free here:  http://www.brothersoft.com/adobe-pagemill-download-9577.html

Dreamweaver is the best, but will cost ya hundreds of dollars.

Try Trellian http://www.trellian.com/webpage/index.html

Then go to http://clantemplates.com/ to get some idea's for your site.

Dreamweaver is by far the best program out there right now for making any website, but as other have said it is also very expensive unfortunately.

Haha, been forever since I used notepad to make anything HTML, used Dreamweaver a few times and don't think I could ever go back.

I used Dreamweaver for several years working on my son's youth football organization website. Now we are using something else since I told them to go hire someone since I didn't have time for it anymore. Dreamweaver works great but for simple things don't spend the big time cash on it.

Exactly.  Don't buy Photoshop if all you want to do is resize pictures.

type "open source html editor" in google and research.

For me, dreamweaver is what I would recommend.  You might be able to get an older version on ebay somewhere cheap.

I got a program from CoffeeCup Software. A decent one, methinks. I didn't get to use it much, since my immediate use for it expired right after I bought it. Handy to have a round though.
