I'm not quitting....
« on: November 15, 2008, 07:16:42 PM »
...Even if I loose both arms in an industrial accident and have to manage the stick with my teeth and the throttle with...well, you don't want to know.  :D

Seriously folks, what is with this spate of quittings? Not enough action? I always find enough bandits and then some. Too many gangs and HOs? Look at it as a challenges to be overcome with strategy. Game become too easy?...Well gee chief, good for you!

Maybe try dogfighting in a Stuka...WITH the 1800 kilo bomb attached? (Honestly, game looks like it is fairly easy for Steve or Shawk, etc and you can't keep 'em out of the MA with a stick...I suspect the number of people for whom the game is actually too easy would fit in my living room.)

BnZs did you change your forum name from BnZ to BnZs? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would "Trotter" by chance be related to the William Trotter who wrote "Frozen Hell" (about the Finno-Russian war)?

If so, why? If not, why not?

From Library Journal
"This history is a well-balanced blend of narrative and analysis. Trotter's overt sympathy for the justice of Finland's cause does not blind him to the justified fear of Nazi Germany that led Russia to demand a buffer zone in front of Leningrad. Similarly, Trotter's admiration for the Finnish army's fighting power does not prevent him from presenting its limitations as well as achievements."

Fair enough.

Good book, enjoyed it a lot. The author is obviously sympathetic to the Finns but doesn't let that get in the way of the story -- and its an amazing underdog story. Worth the read....

Honestly, I think many are quitting due to real life issues.  It's tough to justify an amount of time spent on a computer game when the mortgage isn't payed.

The others, well, many vets remember how it was.  When there was honor and fun to be had by all.  You know, you used to be able to rearm without constantly scanning for a single 190 diving down from 13K to vulch the rearm pad.  I had three people try that in the past week alone.

People used to let damaged birds flap their way home.... now 5 guys are killshooting themselves to nail the one guy who's wrestling his joystick to keep it level.

The community used to police itself, and mold each newcomer into the honor code that was the game.  That is long gone now.

I seriously wish HT would take away the kills announcement.  So many of these new guys are just trying to get a "SYSTEM: IdiotMoron landed 3 kills", and not learn how to fly and fight.

Probably a lot of truth in what you are saying.  I know time is a serious issue for me now.  When I do get a bit of time to log in, it's easier to get frustrated quickly when your choices are up into the crowd and get clobbered, or spend your time grabbing from a further base and use up much of that time.  And I would agree that for many, any kill, regardless of how it's made is more important than any kind of challenge in a fight.  I had the same guy hovering over the fight last night, pick me 3-4 times and each time I was in with a couple of baddies at the time.  I never saw him even co-alt.  He landed lots of kills of course :)

Bottom line is it's still my problem to find the fun.  But I think a lot of vets are having a harder time finding that fun, for the reasons stated.

I'm kinda hoping they do a sub special for the 'bad economy'.  Maybe lower the price for 6 month subs to a much better rate than what it is now?

THAT would keep them coming. :)

Time is a factor.  That's why I liked playing in the free 8 player arena.  You usually had a choice of either a small 2 country base capture map or a 1 country free-for-all furball map (instant action).  Unlimited ammo, fuel.....  No rules, anything goes and no score.  What fun "games" those were.  Had a lot a friends there, most were Aussies and New Zealanders.  I usually play at 3:00 a.m. CST.  Most of them didn't make it over to the MA cause of slow connections.  Anyway it would be cool if some sort of arena could be set up similar to the old 8 player option.  Paying for it isn't problem either.

Sure sounds great. Then when HTC reverts the fee to its true rate, 48% of the playerbase will say that he is for the biggest rate increase in history [/politicsoff]

MORAY, you are right, but also in a sense the fact that the community is diluted by ACM dullards makes the bond between those who know how to fight that much stronger. I have no evidence to back this theory, as half the "good" pilots I fight will either PM or 200 smack talk me afterwards, but I like to believe the capacity for comraderie is there. In the old AvA I fought batfink once F6F to Ki84, fight went on for more than 5 minutes until I was oil leaked and out of E. Batfink's F6F slid behind me for what I thought was the final blow, until he held his guns and pulled alongside, wagged his wings and escorted me home. Me and him did not know each other ingame at all, but the fight alone generated the respect that he gave. I'd like to think that capacity for respect is still there among the ACM playerbase.
