Any golfers...yall have bad tempers?
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:33:13 PM »
I'm pretty hot headed. It doesn't take much to make me mad. On the Golf course over the years I have gotten much better at controlling my temper from my younger years. Broken shafts , throwing clubs. Generally being a horses ass.

Today I was playing. I wasn't hitting it all that well and for some reason I was getting more and more mad by the minute. By the time I got around to the 16th hole I blew up. It was a 155 yard par 3. I hit an 8 iron to 2 feet. But , I hit it kind of skanky. Much like I had been hitting it all day but the result was fine. I walked back to the cart and swung my 8 iron at my bag like I was hitting a fast ball. My temper finally let go. So did my Ping G10 driver. I hit the bag so hard that I ended up breaking my driver in half.

I couldn't even be mad about doing that as I had already acted like a fool.

107.00 later I had a new shaft put in the driver since I have a big game in the morning.

You would THINK a man of my age would NOT do stupid poop like that after all these years playing golf. Hell I have spent enough money on broken equipment that I could have a whole new set of irons.

Any of you Golfing types have tempers?

I share Bill Cosby's opinion about golf. Dumb game.

lol, steve almost walked off the course on me for blowing up. he is mr. calm, and the only time emotions show on the course is him getting mad at other golfers getting mad :rofl

one time we were paired up with this teenager who competed in long drive contests, had like a $800 driver. dumb bellybutton got mad and whacked the ground after slicing off a drive that he broke the head off the custom shaft. that was on the 7th hole, on the 9th Steve refused to make the turn with them, went into the pro shop and had us wait to be paired on the back with someone else.

lol....THis is really the first club I have broken in years. And I'm not bragging just wondering if I am the only idiot.  I may hit the ground...or something...but today just boiled. No idea how I got the mad. I make birdie on the hole...and lose money on the day for being stupid.

uhh nothing like that, lol.  at worst i'll merely drop my club (not toss, drop) or smack it down on the ground with middlin' force.  i will toss a ball into a pond or somewhere sometimes (cheaper than tossing my putter).

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

I feel your pain, I broke my driver this year as well (Taylormade R7 Superquad).  The irony was, after the new shaft I hit it better!!!

I had a new shaft put in mine....GRAPHITE design YS-5+ 55 gram. I guess I'll see in the a.m. if it's better.

I am just learning the game of golf at the age of 15, I have been playing for about a year and I get easily pissed off when I make a bad shot.  It happens now more often than it use to because I am now to the point where I can make good shots but I can also duff a few.

My bad shot habit (that I didn't realize I did until pointed out one day) is that if I hit a poor shot I release the club on the follow through and catch it with my right hand which is at my side over where I teed the ball.  Someone caught it on video and showed me.  If I could do it on purpose I think it would be a pretty nifty trick.

If you did that with me I'd not want to play with you anymore either, RT.  I'd probably finish the round and if we were playing in competition I'd do anything I could to further annoy you  ;)

I threw a club (I really only wanted to swing it hard out of frustration) on a rainy day this summer.  I hit a poor drive, swung the club and it slipped out of my hand and ended up 90º left of the teebox up in a tree.  I was embarassed but moreso because I needed to borrow another player's ball retriever to pull the club down.  I was my copilot's guest in a charity event, was embarassed and even ashamed that the result was what it was.

I would like to ask you if it was frustration or competition that made you act like that? Your answer really doesnt matter though as its an introspective point you need to review on your own and then solve also. It is my feeling that golf should be enjoyed. Courses are designed to frustrate the best golfers so also ask yourself why you play if you know you are going to show your temper. Then resolve to change your perspective and it shouldnt happen again.

Ha! Im sure the Pros agree... I think Annika has a good chance of besting the field at Trumps event this weekend. If so she will walk away $1000000 richer. My father once told me that pushing me away from golfing as a child (when I showed interest) was the dumbest thing he ever did. Of course in those days no one knew the prize money would be what it is today. Pros lose their pro status if they make less then $1000000 a year in prize money.

Dumb  :rofl :rofl

Quite the opposite.  Once you become a professional golfer you cannot go back to an amateur without jumping through a lot of hoops.

They can lose their PGA Tour cards if they fall out of the top 125 of the money list or are not otherwise exempt.

Thats right and this year that meant $1000000 for the year. I was wrong to say 'pro status' and your right about losing the PGA tour card. I think most of them pick up sponsor exemptions anyway but for a lot of relative unknowns it means painful time at Q school.

I stopped letting my anger take over the day I threw a wrench down on the pavement and it bounced up and hit me square in the gonads! :cry

Now I try to find some other outlet or something.  :rofl
