Scoreing/ranking system
« on: May 08, 2000, 01:02:00 PM »
Im confused on how ranking in this game works. I often have a better k/d , k/mission ,points and hit% than some at the bottom of the top 100. I get ranked 300 to 500. Why is this? I do get kills slower than most but i land my kills when alot above me dont? This ranking system baffles me. Can someone explain it? How is it weighted is killing fast more important than landing kills?

I would venture to guess that alot of folks pay no attention to scoring.

However, in defense of time aloft versus kills, anyone can get 30k alt. fly around with full tanks, get 3 or more kills, and land safely, its easy.  What's hard to do is maintain the same K/D ratio without getting the  alt adavantage (time aloft) so, if you spend alot of time getting alt for your kills(or taking time to hunt  down easy kills) the score system accordingly penalizes you for it, as it should.

One thing that  will help your overall score balloon is to A> Do some bomber missions, and B> Capture some airfields with a C47.

Eye i  found  balancing out sorties between bombing and destroying enemy structures and succesfull  C-47 base captures will increase your score  signifigantly. If you look at the top ranked players you will notice all of them have spent quality time in the buffs and goons.

I hope this helps

One thing scoring does not take into account is the fun i had slugging it out with Nash and Fat Drunk Bastards last night (lol that sounds like a good name for a Band)

My stats for last night would look horendous on a resume but i would rater have  Fun  than  worry about my score

Thx for the tips guys. Its just that i hate buffing. Rather i love acm! I wont buff never did in aw3 wont here I guess ill have to live with being 400 lol. Still fighter rankings are squewed wrong here. K/d K/mission Shooting% then speed of kills in my book is whats important. They should be weighted its not hard to go 1 to 1 k/d. Its very hard to go 100 kills and say 4 deaths regardless of the alt you fly at. this is a sim .In my book those who do well with the fewest deaths are flying more like a ww2 fighter pilot.

And the guys with hi scores are flying more like WW2 Fighter pilots AND Bomber pilots, no relevence to real goon pilots though.
Pyro uses the score system to encourage play in a way that will help generate conflict.
It works very well.
If you think real WW2 fighter pilots cruised arround at the edges of every fight trying to pick off the strays then you are mistaken. Missions were assigned and people flew into the malestrom to accomplish them. Some pilots got to lone wolf a little but for the most part the pilots had no choice at all about how their war was fought.

Refusing to fly the goon indicates you dont trust your wingys...cause thats what steady goon work takes trust or cunning.

When the community looks at the score board and sees someone with 3.3 K/D and 11% gunnery who is ranked 83....We all know that we are seeing a very dangerous fighter pilot regardless of the ranking. When someone like that talks ACM people listen.
Alot of guys with hi K/Ds also dont fight bombers. A well flown bomber is at best a 50/50 run. lots of guys dont like those odds..But bomber kills really add to your points...
So play the game the way you like and enjoy it. You are missing some real fun not flying goon though..
