Did the attack segement change?
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:35:08 AM »
I was just finished a new mission with the editor and noticed that when two enemy planes are engaged on a single plane that no other AI planes will attack the same plane and will continue to fly on as though they are in a cruise segment when there are no other planes to attack.  Has it always been like this or was that something new added with the last release?  I see the benefit where all the AI resources are not wasted on a single target but the downside is they don't wait around to see if their buddies fail to get the job done...

The planes need to be within 3000 to attack each other.  Did you create a borderline case?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think so..

For the Japanese mission there are three routes defined, and each route has 7 flights with one plane per flight. For the Americans there is two routes with two flights each containing one plane per flight.  When the Americans attack the first group of Japanese planes attached to the first route everything behaves as expected.  However I have a second route containing a group of planes for the Japanese that shows up 10 seconds after the dogfighting begins between the first groups.  It varies each time you run the mission in the editor but the second group at times comes within 800 meters(using the icons measure) of the American planes but they don't react.  They continue to fly on as though they are in a cruise segment instead of a attack.

Well, make sure the "Can Dogfight" is checked for the flight.  Also, they won't engage if there's already too many friendlies on a bandit - that's to prevent AI escorts from abandoning their charges. So check that too.

Yeah, the 'can dogfight' is checked for each flight,  there must be to many already engaged...  Thanks for the info..
