Partitioning HD??
« on: November 22, 2008, 07:50:49 AM »
I built a rig,and ever since then my X52 uncalibrates.I am not sure, but there may be a reason for this.Let me know what you think..

My original comp had the HD partitioned. This build I re-used the same HD and did NOT partition,I dont know if this is causing my stick to "WHACK OUT",but am curious to know.

Is their some particular reason why one would NEED to partition windows on the HD??

The best luck Ive had in general is allways having a dual boot with a "Gaming" side where that's really all that I have on it, minimum installs minimum processes.  All of the "regular" stuff is on the other boot drive.

No.

The reasons to do it are to install the OS and programs on one partition and data on a second.  That way there is little changing on the boot partition making de-fragging easier and faster.

I have a 250 Gb boot drive, a 200 Gb storage drive and a 160 Gb back-up drive.  None of them are partitioned.

Falc, while I'm no computer whiz, I suspect your problem is the X52 itself. Time and again I've come across hearing how someone's X52 won't hold calibration. It happened to mine, too.

There are 3 possible causes that I know of:
1. Lack of sufficient power. Remedy - powered USB Hub (Belkin get's the highest marks)
2. Drivers not installed properly or not installed at all.
3. The sensors just crap out in time. My guess is that this is the culprit 90% + of the time.

Good luck with a fix but IMHO your best long term bet is a CH rig.

What kind of systems are you folks running that you need to have duel boots to run this game worried about the number of Processes.  This game and the amount of resources it uses are minimal.  I am an Overclocker and compete and we don't worry about this stuff.  I build fast for the budget be it 600.00 or 4500.00, get the best in that bracket for a good balance.   I don't get it I guess.

<- 1.33 GhZ Processor with 1GB of RAM and a GeForce 7600 GS 512 MB DDR2.

Used to run it on:

1.33 GhZ Processor with 500 MB of RAM and a GeForce MX/MX 400 with 56 MB of RAM.

Either way I'd still shut off a bunch of processes, gives the game more room to work.

Ive got plenty of horsepower, but this isn't the only game I run, maybe its bad habits from the old days (blazing SX386-16) or maybe its because of the banking programs, the music programs, the mobile sync programs, all those things that want to auto update, yes can turn them off, yes an fsautostart would kill or maybe its just toady's clutter.  I've never in 3 years so far had a problem with my X52 and peddles.  who knows

I run CH and never had a problem with any of that for like 5 years now.  I guess its all what we do with our systems.  God forbid most of these systems trying to play Crisis

Same here...I haven't had to re-cal my X52 in Windows ever, and I've had it for...3 years now. Maybe 4.

I play:
AH, COD1-4, Halo, FlightSim2004 and X, MSCFS3, Americas Army, etc and no problems whatsoever

This should work:

Open Aces High
Enter arena
Minimize AH
Open Saitek profiler and calibrate in windows(control panel)
Minimize profiler
Get on runway and calibrate in AH.

I ran a racing sim game for many years and we did an experiment. We ran game all ways and this method gave us more accurate wheel control. We could hold our turns better and lap times were sometimes 3-4 tenths better. When I started aces high, I was having calibration issues and this resolved the issue. I have recommended this proceedure to many pilots and it works! I cannot explain why. I never have to recalibrate at any time while playing!

Ok I am curious about your desktop 1) Why is the "Search Desktop" in your tool bar when you have 19 items neatly arranged?  2) Spyware Dr and Registry Mechanic are the most BLOATED bogus beginner junk programs out there.

Worried about spyware SpyBot small footprint and no garbage added.  Registry problems... make a registry snapshot or backup which ever you prefer before an install.  LOL

Spyware Blaster works well too.

What I dont get is when people say to calibrate the x52 in windows..

I dont think this is the calibration ,it is merely showing you what works when pressed or moved...???

Am I wrong?

IIRC the X52 is a "self" calibrating stick.

What I get is ALL the led's blink, and sometimes it uncalibrates, and sometimes it does not.

I have a powered USB port it is plugged in too..I am just truly at a loss..It did NOT happen ever before I built my new comp...
