Canyon Battles
« on: October 10, 2000, 03:06:00 PM »
The canyons with the associated vehicle bases seem tailor-made for huge combined-arms battles. Where tanks battle for the bases, jabos come in to kill the tanks, and fighters come to kill and protect the jabos.

I would love to see this, but it rarely happens for some reason. I think a few small changes would encourage these kinds of battles. Im just not sure what those changes are.

It might so the trick if the canyon v-bases were harder to capture by air. Something like hardened and/or multiple hangars with more ack.

Any other ideas?

You don''t need changes to the software or arena get something done or organized with this map. All you need is a plan and some verbostiy.
Make a plan to attack a base and recruit the living daylights out of the people in the arena at the time to participate. It helps to be in a squad. If you're not then you could start one or join one.
These grand battles aren't as frequent as many might like only because people don't take the initiative to create them.

I've seen a few... I've also used the canyons to get away a couple of times, once flying "around a corner" and then reversing, scaring the crap out of my pursuers when they met me at point-blank range doing about 800mph relative airspeed  .

Yes, the key is getting a few guys together and planning the assault, then it can be great fun.

Westy,
I wasnt complaining, just suggesting a tweak to enhace gameplay (my vision of it).

What i was getting at was that the canyon v-bases typically seem to get captured in pairs, with a single buff closing both. I just thought if they were a little harder to shut down, it might give some more time for a general air/ground furball to develop.

Its just an idea. Im not trying to make everyone play "my way"

The tweak in gameplay is called defense.

I've never seen both VFields get captured simultaneously when at least 1 person decided to defend them.

I've also been in several VField ground battles.

I understand Regurge. My post wasn't meant to sound as a flame or hostile.  Just saying that "we" the players do have the means at our disposal to do what you wrote of.  IT's just that most online players do not seem interested in thier use. Many do however but they've still have yet to take the bull by the horns and use them.

Ur right deja, I defended a VH the other night when a couple of Tyffies had closed them down and then tried to sneak in with a couple of Goons.  A lot of fun going after C47s on the deck in canyons with my pony.

Paint two more marks on the nose...

Naw...you got it all wrong.  Its more fun to spawn an Ostwind at the unclosed base and then hide out until the C-47 shows up and then shoot him as he is dropping the drunks.  Its pretty funny to see a gooney bird try to go into extreme evasion manuvers while you light him up with 37mm from the Ostie's gun.

I think the problem is that the V bases in the canyons are super-easy to de-hangar.

be cool to have 3-4 vhangars at canyon bases and 4-6 acks

could leave vbases in hq area the way they are but those canyon vbases need to be beefed up badly.

1 person can wipe out 2 vbases and goon them easily with the current canyon vbases
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Oh my god someone agees with me!

I would like to see jaboing the vehicles become a viable tactic, allowing your ground forces to close in and kill the enemy vh.

As it is, its far more effective to just bomb the enemy vh.

Another thing, once u get your tank in range of the enemy vh, they can spawn behind you. Thats kinda bogus to me.

Oh yeah, and it would be nice if Pnzr rounds didnt pass thru the vh at long ranges.
