Controls quit working
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:55:05 PM »
 Hi,
I am having a problem with my controls. It seems like after an hour or so of playing my controls quit working in the game. I can go to the map controllers page and see the numbers changing for the controller but in the game they have no control. I usually have to relog and downlaod the map to the gear and run cm start. I then have to calibrate my controllers in the game to get everything working.
I have all ch gear and when it works it works well. I have a seperate pci - usb card that I am running my gear through. Every other computer function seems ok and there doesn't seem to be an overheating problem. I haven't tried the controllers on seperate ports, so that may be something to try. Any help would be greately appreciated.

WHat kind of systme do you have... or motherboard?  Are the MB drivers up to date?  Check in your Device Manager for a ! Does te keyboard and mouse work when the controls stop working of is it system wide?  If they do I would move the USB card to a different PCI slot if available.  Are you running vista or xp.  If Vista did you follow the install instructions?  Need more information then what you have provided here.

I have a Gigabyte  p35 mb, 2 gig 1066 ram, duo core 6750 cpu. It is about a year old and I have not had this problem before. Everything seems to work ok including the mouse which is a wireless usb mouse. I will probaly try another pci slot to see if it goes away. Just strange that the numbers on the map controllers page in Ah show that the controllerrs are moving.
I will check for the drivers also.
 Thanks for your reply tilDeath.

It does not sound like the PSU to me.  Its the components on "THAT" PCI expansion card. It could be the expansion card going bad or the PCI starting to fail.  Correct me if I am wrong, but from what you said all the controllers are plugged into that ONE expansion card? Your mouse uses a USB port direct connect to the MB?   There should be 3 more available on the P35 series boards. If you have other USB devices that are using the Direct connect USB ports try moving them  esp if one is a printer plug that in the card and move your joystick to the direct connect.  You didn't mention your OS.  I its Vista, could be a driver download with the auto update is not playing nice.  If it is Vista to check if its the problem, remove the devices, then I would roll back to before the problem started.  Plug them back in but in different USB slots. Start at the top of my list from previous post then the to the top here and work your way down.

I would do what TilDeath is saying.  I've had a PCI USB expansion card go bad on me before.  Except mine just stopped recognizing anything plugged into it.

Swoose, I have an XP machine running the full CH setup (Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals) all running via USB ports on my mother board.  Every once in a while, one or two of my USB devices simply drop off the list of attached devices.  Seems like it might be related to the occasional time when I shut the machine down for something.  Anyway, all I need to do is physically unplug the "lost" device, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.  If I perform this little jig, XP seems to re-recognize the USB device.  Most odd.

Get a powered USB hub... one that plugs into the wall for power, then plug your joysticks into that.  It also helps save the motherboard (or USB card) from power spikes from the equipment.
