Light up the runways
« on: August 28, 2001, 12:22:00 PM »
If nite is going to remain a regular feature in AH, any chance the programmers could find a way to temporarily light up the runways when we're on approach? I wouldn't be surprised if a lighted runway isn't very "historic", but it would help during gameplay.

Ever made an approach in a small plane at night into a small airport?   Key the mic a pre-determined number of times and ... voila! ... the runways and taxiways light up just long enough for you to land and taxi to the parking area.

We could use something like this in AH, IMO.

Yup, we've got many airports setup like that around here.  Key the mic 7 times and the lights are on for 15 minutes.

But did they have such things in WW2?  I'm in favor of the red nav lights and all, as well as landing lights on the aircraft.  I'm annoyed that when darkness hits, the clipboard map gets dark too.

Several nice things that add atmospehere and immersion...lights on at the cities, etc.

Of course my favorite Wish List item is *hearing* other planes engines whiz by, or roar to life on the runway.  The combat, so far, is pretty quiet.

I'm all for it!  We have nifty blue lights at Gen. Mitchel International (Milwaukee).. wouldnt mind seeing any type of lights added though.  Perhaps there could be a way to disable an enemy field's lights (no tactical advantage, but there to annoy people and another target at a field to strafe  :)).

ooh!  Search lights would be a nifty too!  Have a little power generator or a transformer fields and facilities for searchlight and any other type of lighting.  Maybe with the transformer (or generator, whatever it is) and lights disabled, night time ack can be 50% less efficient?  I dont know, but it sounds like a good idea to me. =]  Perhaps HTC could add a power station in the country's city that would govern the down time of the transformer/generators?  Hey, just throwing out thoughts.. what do you think?

Ohhh... I'd love to have lighted runways.  I don't have much trouble landing at night, but it'd just look COOL!

Perhaps it could be activated by a dot command?  I.E. .light 26 <enter> or something similar?

And darken bases, cities, factories, but for the searchlights, as it should be. That would be the only situation where GPS would not be ominously unfair, and carpet bombing a useful (probably the only useful) tactic.....wait, I'm derailing...again to the blast radius topic, hehehe.   ;)

Cheers,

Pepe.
