aces high and computer crashing RAM
« on: November 27, 2008, 11:19:33 AM »
logged on today and the aces high screen would go black, come back, go black, come back, start changing colors and computer would crash. Never happened like this before. Called Dell support. They had me download updated Nvidia drivers. Same problem. They said I needed more ram. I have 2 gigs ram. They said half of that was took up by vista. They advised I buy 2 gigs of additional ram from them for $80.00. As I have never been inside a computer they said they would walk me thru the installation process when it arrives ,ship date 12-2-08. Anyhow I deleted a bunch of stuff I don't use anymore and it seems to be working fine now. But I guess as I add more stuff later it will be a issue again.

Any suggestions. Not a computer expert here.

well seem to be having a issue with the new nvidea update. Looks like I have jagged edges in the cockpit framework that were not there before. I have  it set on high quality which is supposed to help with that. Just seems like it was not that bad before.

does the video card have anything to do with playback in the ah2 filmviewer? I guess if it does not then I could compare what I have now to a  film I had saved prior to the update.

flatiron the usual process is to paste the first 1/3 of dxdiag report and I think specifically what people look at is device IDs and drivers. It sounds like the culprit here will be on-board video but I am hoping you will say otherwise.

If you installed new drivers which probably means that your settings were reset which probably means that any anti-aliasing settings you turned on will need to be turned on again.

Oh yeah thanks motherland I missed that part.

If you update AH or drivers either one (you should always clean drivers before installing new ones) you should delete the previous profile for AH from the Nvidia Control Panel and create a new one. For some reason the old settings dont always move over properly particularly if the location of the game is not a default location. The same goes for any game and profile.

According to your DXDIAG output, you do not have the native NVidia drivers installed.  The game cannot run on the 'Standard VGA driver' as all it provides is 2D (normal desktop stuff) support.

OK me and my Indian friend with dell finaaly got it fixed. The reason it would not start was the previous dell dude had corrected one problem with the drivers but like Skuzzy said he did not set up the Nvidea drivers or they were not taking or something. Anyhow it seems to working fine now all it took was about 10 calls to India and about 15 hours on the phone. Thank goodness my warranty is still in effect untill 20011 so it did not cost me anything.

well crap I spoke too soon. Game is still causing computer to crash. It's got to be something wrong with the video card. I let the game run from about 2am last night untill about 8 am and it did fine now this maybe 2 minutes after logging on..
