What's the best monitor
« on: November 30, 2008, 01:06:37 PM »
Looking to replace my old crt.  Have a new system but kept my old .26 dot pitch, huge, 70 pound monitor.  Are the new flat screen monitors better and do they react faster.  If so, what would any of you recommend.

Does the monitor affect the size of the enemy planes and would it help my shooting accuracy?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  I am getting older and do have a few vision problems with smaller items.

Flat screens have superior image detail and they react fast enough for your eyes. They have worse color accuracy especially on cheap models.

But unless you're planning to do serious photo/videoediting you don't need more than a $400 TFT.

As Riply stated, you'll get a much sharper image out of an LCD.  It makes tracking those dots ever so much easier.

22" widescreen LCD's seem to be the best value at the moment.  Look for something with 5ms response time, 16.2 MM colors and 1000:1 contrast at a minimum.  Faster response, more colors and higher contrast are generally better.  At the low end expect to pay slightly over $150.  At the high end it should still be under $350.

You'll be pleased.

Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Thank you all for your help.  I ordered the Samsung T220 from Best Buy.  I look forward to seeing you all on line and I really appreciate you information.  The best thing about this game is the people you meet.

Again thanks
