LA 5
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:56:01 PM »
Well, after a year, and flying just about every plane in the inventory, I think I have found the plane I like.  Even though I have flown it a bit over the last year, for some reason last tour some things just seem to fall into place in my ACM and SA and now everthing seems to be coming together.

I don't see folks flying the LA 5 much, so I would like some suggestions on the proper way (tactics) to use when flying it.  For some reasons, I seem to be racking up some kills in it this tour, and one thing I have learned is to keep it fast.

I am especially looking for advise on when and when not to use flaps, but any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Fred, a future LA 5 DWEEB

I don't think Shane will keep it fast though :lol He stall fights really well in one. He almost spanked my hurricane in a few stall fights one morning.

Don't use flaps except for landing. :)

If you get in trouble put your nose down, accelerate away, then immelman back up & over and back into the fight.
Spit 8 and 16's are probably the toughest to deal with. La5 will hang with most spitxteen's if you start out with a position of advantage. Love to slip in behind one, watch him flopping, twisting turning all over the sky to end up on the deck with an la5 200 behind it cutting it to shreds.

Spit 8's, well I mostly try to stay away from them.

Actually I've flown La5s quite a bit the past two years and I do use flaps in the event that the fight gets that slow.

All I know about them is that if you get too slow an f6 will out turn them. Any decent E and they can out turn an f6.

I just started flying the La5 last week and I agree. Along with flaps, knowing when to cut and increase throttle can be the difference between a face plant, and a kill in a stall fight on the deck.

Nice plane but I don't like the guns.  It's one of the few planes I pull my convergence in to 400 in (from my usual 650).  That change made all the difference for me in actually being able to hit something vs. not.

Also, like the 109's you have to get used to those wing slats popping in and out and potentially disrupting a shot.  They don't seem to be a problem for me in the 109's the way they are in the La's but that just might be a mental thing.

Love the re-worked graphics.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I think the LA5 is a great plane, when i fly it I will use flaps to fight with IF NEEDED, then again I only use flaps in any plane I Fly when needed, its not as fast as the LA7, but i believe it turns tighter?
and its a good plane to rack up perks!!

it does stall fight good, if you know how to stall fight.

it seems like what ever it cant out turn, it can out run and vice versa.

HOW do you fight against them in the 38? assuming almost equal e, or the 38 a bit slower?

it can be a tossup depending on the respective drivers.

well.....me in the 38.......and i still am learnign it...

i was referencing possibly when you're egressing form a fight, and an la starts the chase. i at first was thinking to bravely run away, till i saw him gaining on me. we were on the deck, and i probably waited too long to turn into him......but i couldn't get myself an advantage, or gain any slack to gain further seperation from him. i also don't see em too much in mw, which makes me more clueless than i already im.

thank ya sir!

fight them like a 109g2/g.. these would be the most comparable in MW.
