Sorry, but I just can't justify paying $30.00, let alone $30.00/mo, for any online game that can't even keep track of it's players.   During my free trial period I got dumped out of the action by "Host Connection Lost" every single time I went online in AH.  Net load or time of day had nothing to do with it because it would even happen Midnight to 3am PDT when there was only 25 people in the Main Arena.  In fact, it became so routine & happened so many times that I finally lost count & was forced to set a limit of 3 occurances/flying session to keep from bursting a blood vessel or putting my fist through the monitor screen...... I'll keep watching the AH BBS & will be more than willing to signup with AH once I'm convinced this issue has been corrected & eliminated.

Try tracing the route to HTC, if there's a clear server that causes this, let HTC know.

Have you tried connecting through the alternate route?

 In other words you think it's HTC's responsibility to keep you connected to the Internet?
 Let alone regular ISP and customer CPE issues did you know that from midnight to 5 am eastern is the telecommunications industries acknowleged "maintenance" window? In other words during those hours is when equipment is repaired, upgraded, worked on, tested and otherwise messed with.
 Why do YOU think it is an issue HTC needs to deal with?
 I do have to hand it to HTC and Skuzzy for keeping the service connection top notch. Skuzzy even chasing Sprint to resolve problems out of his normal area of responsibility. Why don't YOU help find the problem and then see about enlisting Skuzzy and HTC to help fix it - if they can.
 A license requirement should be needed to get on the Internet I swear.

Host Connection Lost is not HTC's problem, it's your ISP. Net load and all that rot have nothing to do with a crappy ISP. Believe me, I am in the business. Been here since beta and been discoed all of 2 times.

P.S. I will say, as of late, alter.net has been a little goofy on the route to HTC.

But Regardless do a trace route and send the info to HTC.  Odds are you are getting killed by a hub along the way (Live in the north east by any chance? D.C. is a KILLER!)

Also how is your regular internet connection to the internet, get disconnected a lot when not playing AH?

Host connection lost indicates that for some reason you and HTC stopped communicating for too long a period of time.  Remember that other folks are flying and not getting that message.  If it is HTC's fault when folks log back in you will see the complaints in the message buffer.  There are days you can tell where the bad leg is (I suffer when UUNet Has a problem) and often see other complain of Stop Light Beacons or we all mass disco together.  If you aren't seeing these indications then odds are it's your ISP or a hub between you and HTC.

Man, that is so weird that you bring this up.  In the hundreds of sessions I've played with AH I've gotten booted maybe five times.  The other day, I hear about Warbirds WWII arena.  I load it up, take off in my 109 and after about fifteen minutes, I got booted.  I tried again, same thing.  And a thrid time, same deal.  So I loaded up Aces High, never disconnecting from my orriginal connection mind you, and flew seamlesly for two hours.  I think it's actually pretty freaky how stable AH has been on my system.  I'm lucky, I guess.

To HTC, I've perhaps had average of one disco per 12 hours of play, including beta times when I did play way too much

This "Host Connection Lost" problem of mine is unique to only AH.  My Earthlink/Sprint DSL trace route seems clear, Ping Plotter records pings from 20, then gets "a little goofy" [as Apache noted] and jumps up to 100 going thru alter.net on the trip from California to HTC.  

FYI, I also fly the other online flight sim brands located 1,000's of miles further than HTC from me during the same times & under the same conditions - yes, I may have an occasional disconnect of one sort or another once & awhile.... maybe one in a week, or a month, if at all...... but not several of them every time I logon like with AH.  Some of you have noted not having any problems but all you have to do is read the radio buffer to know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.  So how do you explain that away?

I also want you to know I'm not bringing this up just for the heck of it, or to place any blame - something's "broke" & needs to be fixed, all I'm trying to do is reach the right person with the information so the problem can be corrected.  Right now, no one knows for sure where, who or what is causing AH to lose track of it's players, but with an aparent clear route trace on this end everything right now unfortunately appears to point to where the game originates, the Host.   And finally,  since HTC wants me to give them $30.00/mo to play AH & it is their game, I think it's their responsibility [and in their best interest] to trackdown a problem such as this & do everything possible to get it corrected.  Would you buy a toy you knew was broken before you bought it?  I didn't think so.

And Westy, even tho you think you know it all - you don't.  Bet I worked on my 1st computer before you were even born, so I'm more than sure my Internet license would easily predate yours.... First of all, ya gotta  pay attention - I didn't say anything about HTC being responsible for keeping me connected to the Internet, just that they remember I logged on, keep track of what I'm doing & where I am at all times & not "lose" me or the fact I'm connected to the game.  Pretty basic stuff & not to much to ask of an online game is it?  And second, your commercial on how wonderful you think HTC is doesn't address or solve the problem being discussed in this thread, I was only asking that they look into the problem & do everything possible to fix it.

Slyder, a few questions if I may. Maybe I can help. Would like to try anyway.

1. What are your system specs?
2. What type of modem do you have? I.E.,hardware modem, software modem? Internal, external?
3. What is your dialup type? pots?, ISDN?, Cable?, DSL?
4. What are your trace routes on both ip's?
5. Are you behind a firewall?
6. Do you use a packet resizer utility?

All I can think of right now. This will get us started.

I am using a Pacbell ADSL connection from up here in the San Francisco Bay Area and have never suffered a disconnect.

I don't know where the problem lies, but I don't think it is with HTC.

Slyder post the information Apache asked u for in the "internet Connection" Forum, so skuzzy can take a direct look at it.

Btw, this is the only Sim where u get this quality of help  .

Sounds just like the guy that we don't want in AH.  Please do this community a big favor and stay on the other flight sim.  Thanks!

 Getting defensive Slyder? For good reason I think. See, I am an bellybutton and being so can spot one a mile away. The whiney, sniveling tone in your post ("I just can't justify paying $30.00, let alone $30.00/mo, for any online game that can't even keep track of it's players...) along with allegations that HTC has the means to fix your problem marked you as an ass.  IMNSHO of course.
 Try this.  Next time you're listening to a radio and you hear static call up the radio station and demand they fix your radio or it's reception problem!
