Can't go wrong with JL Audio.

Also make sure you get an amp with enough watts running to the subs as well.

I have a Cerwin Vega subwoofer in my home stereo setup, 12" down-firing driver. I like it very much.

I have been a CV fan for quite some time.  I have been waiting for an excusse to take the plunge on this-

I would eventually add a second sub.  :devil

Don't add a second sub unless you have a VERY LARGE Room.   It will make the Low End worse.    Some tend to think otherwise and they regret it.   I used to be a Forum regular on Sound and Visions Forum, but grew tired of the cookie cutter replies, brand bias instead of research, etc.

You're in Michigan I believe, if you want the biggest bang for the buck subwoofer money can buy, look no further than these guys:

http://www.svsound.com/products.cfm

If you email them with ANY QUESTION, they reply.   The OWNERS are the ones replying, not some other employee.   These are bar none the best subs for your HT that money can buy.   Quality is equal to REL, Price is right, they don't use cheap components and their customer service has already made waves as did Outlaw Audio.

Word of warning.
If you get one for your car do NOT drive past my house in the wee hours of the morning "WOOMP WOOM WOOMP WOOM WOOMP WOOM"
Or you may end up with a brick entering your rear window.

you guys want some good investment advise.
Buy stock in companies that make hearing aids.
I predict within the next 20-30 years there will be a great demand for them

Velodyne 1812 is my recommendation for a home subwoofer. Rel can't hold a candle to Velodyne.

There's a saying there's no replacement for displacement and it's true with subwoofers. The bigger speakers / more speakers you have the more accurate sound you'll get providing you adjust them correctly.

I have a 18" folded horn subwoofer with Precision Devices driver in it.

The hearing aids that they are making now a days dont last too long.  The current pair that I have are a set of Oticon digital hearing aids. I currently go through a ton of batteries for them.   The battery companies that produce stuff for hearing aids would be the companies to invest in, since the batteries always die and you have to get more from somewhere.

My car came from the factory with 2-10" subs and 1000 watt amps.  I know nothing!

Most brand name subs (alteast here) for you home has amps in em. Most A/V recievers has a sub-out port for them.
