Turning off anti virus etc for running AH
« on: December 01, 2008, 04:09:44 PM »
Hey Guys  :)
Am I right in saying that you should have AVG and any other stuff like that turned off when playing? What about Firewalls?

You are safe to disable anti-virus programs when running Aces High II.  If you haev other Internet related applications running though, you may wish to shut those down as well.

Skuzzy.  I believe you on this as i turn off all of my anti-virus stuff and it helps.  My question is:  Why?  As you may know from previous conversations with me, I am VERY computer illiterate.  Thanks!

Anti-virus programs add another layer of software to all file accesses and in some cases all network packets.  They do data comparisons for each packet.  It just adds more overhead to all I/O operations.  In some cases the amount of overhead is very significant.

Not to mention that applications like Norton and Macafee weave a giant spiderweb into all sorts of dark places on your system.  Trust the Skuzzinator and disable that stuff for AH play.

No need if your behind a router.  I only turn mine on once a week to run scans.  Otherwise they are always off and I never get viruses or spyware.
