Putting together a CD for my Brother
« on: December 11, 2008, 01:30:09 AM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGySzGADQBo

Sometimes when I go out to a bar (Which is seldom), I will play this song and Whiskey Boot Hill / Country Girl. Almost always a young couple will ask me who is that. They are shocked when I tell them.

This version of Lee Shore is done by someone else but I thought she did a great job. It seems a very popular remake. Still I like the harmonies of CSNY better on 4 Way Street. Which is on my Brothers CD. He probably has it but he has had Country Girl for decades and never knew it was on the Deja Vu album.

I've also included John Hiatt's "Slow Turning", "Taxi" by Harry Chappin, "Treetop Flyer" by Stephen Stills, "Is it like today" by World Party (Took me years to remember that song) and several more. If any body has some suggestions from the same Genre please contribute. I wanted another song by John Hiatt but could not find it. It had something "Blue" in it. I looked all over for it on Itunes. Also there's a song about "Independence Day on Lincoln Avenue. I couldn't find that one either. I may add some John Prine too.

Again please feel free to contribute. I'm trying to find the good stuff that is a little off from what is over played.

A great idea is to pop onto pandora.com. It's a free set of online radio stations which you put together yourself.  You do have to register, but they don't flood your email box with spam or anything. It's a great site.

Plug in one of your songs or artists, and they run a steady stream of songs (until you log out) of similar taste in that genre.  You should be delightfully surprised with what they come up with, and are certain to fill out the CD with songs you've found from that. :)

TxMom has it right.  Pandora is a very nice streaming media website.  I've found many bands that I probably would have never found before.

Another nice one to try is Seeqpod.com

It's essentially a streaming media search website.  It finds streaming songs and plays them right there on the seeqpod site.  I've had a lot of fun with it lately.  You can save the playlists of songs you find and play and share the playlist with others.

Right now I'm listening to Pandora.  I put in Little Feat and so far I've heard them, The Band, John Hiatt (not sure who this is but I liked the song), the Allman Brothers, and now another Little Feat song.  You can even tell pandora whether you liked a song or not and it play other songs on the channell dependin on your tastes.

Awesome stuff.
