Present Perking dont make sense
« on: May 02, 2001, 12:10:00 PM »
I had hopes for the perk system. Hopes for a better balanced game that could equalize partly that we can select both early and late war planes at any time.

What have we got now? We have got a porked game. Who will fly an f4u anymore? A plane that can be so easely picked up by La7, 190D and P51 to mention some.

F4u is a great attack plane. My favourite for that purpose. Good ordnance selection. Now I have changed to using p51 or Tiffy instead. F4u is not that superior that I will loose perks everytime i attack a field. And we all know that attacking a field most of the time is a one-way ticket experience.

Another bad effect present perking creates is that perked planes are attacked by any enemy in sight in suicidal manouvers, just to get the extra perks if lucky. Lots to win, little to loose. I hardly fly the Tempest for this reason. Its not fun to get all enemies in vis range to focus solely on your lonely Tempest. Too many perks to loose for no fun fights where anything down to TBMs will go for a HO to get you.

Then the size of perk. Is it just set by random? 70 for Tempest and 7 for chog? Ten times the amount? It sure isnt that much better.

To make sense perks must reflect some logic in relation to plane speed and gunnery. That will at the same time make a logical difference in perking of late war planes versus early war planes.

We all want a great selection of different planes and welcome the introduction of new planes. Dont make any new plane a rare thing with a porked perk system.

All late war planes should cost some perks. It do not need to be much to make the neccessary effect of balance. As it is now the 70 perks of a Tempest is way out of line as long as most other planes are not perked at all. The same goes for the 152, which to me dont need many perks to balance its use.

Something must be done fast. Yesterdays experience with perked chogs show that just a few perks makes a BIG difference. Create balance - not the oposit please.

Nah, Fokker, you miss the point of the campaign to perk the F4U-1C.

The point was that a minority didn't like the airplane that apparently a lot of people liked to fly.

So they just started complaining and kept changing modes until they got it done.

For a while the -C had too high a K/D but then when it was shown that in A2A combat against fighters it had about the same K/D as the FW...ching! <Change Mode!>

So then the guns were too good... when no supporting, verifiable data on mismodeling of Hispano's was provided ...ching <Change Mode!>

Then it got "too many kills" and was "all you ever see in the arena". These two apparently worked and now it's a minor perk.

A minor perk, but a MAJOR victory for the small minority that want to dictate how EVERYONE ELSE plays the game.

The irony is that this "all you ever fight in the arena" argument is often made by the people just dying for an Axis V Allied arena.

If we go to an A v A and you pick one side or the other, guess what?  You are going to end up fighting 1 or 2 particular planes MOST of the time.  What hypocrisy!

Gotta love 'em.

Just play their way and all will be fine.

objection your honour! toad this is heresay,conjecture...BS.

and im bored of this crap about small minorities controlling the game?

AH really is getting like a playground full of kids.Toad ever read the posts by pilots on their ages? averages around the 30 mark i think. You really believe people at this age get some sort of thrill out of attacking a plane? I think its the people that 'bite' on these issues and become emotional and throw insults at each other that make this such hard work.
Its an evolving game.Tests will be introduced.Gameplay will be tweaked.Balance attempted with a slant toward a realism/fun balance.
toad, this sort of crap just makes people angry. You have in actual fact accused me and all others who post concerns of being whiners and to be honest im sick of it.
take a moment to really think about what you have claimed here. That a small organised(LOL) band of anti chog flyers have MOANED HTC into submission?.
out of interest just how old are you?

Comes to this Hazed, some folks can handle getting shot down by a superior pilot or A/C..so they attack one or the other, whether it be on a BBS, or in the CH.1 Text buffer.

Toad is right on.  The visible minority is not the invisible majority. As they say, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

What should of happened is for HTC to put up a vote and let the community decide on what to perk and how much.

Heck, I'll even put up a vote to see what people feel needs to be perked.

Yes. I agree that the F4U is a great attack plane, and with a good ordnance selection. You know, there it is in the hangar, by free. The D version, that is. Yes the one wich carries 4 more rockets and 10 more seconds of fire for its main weapons?. That is the F4U1-D. Look! and it is by free! WOW!.

I dont think this is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. At least I hope it isnt the case.

From what Pyro has written on the BBS and in blue, it looks to me like he and HT let the perk system do its thing for a tour to see if it would provide enough incentive for folks to fly the more mediocre planes. Evidently it didnt. The percentage of people in c-hogs was so out of proportion that they felt it was screwing up the perk system, bad for business, wasnt what they wanted for the game, or some other reason. Thus the perk status. I gotta respect that.

I would guess the amount of tempests/ta152s/arados in the arena was about what they wanted to see, so the price stayed the same.

Unless more planes are perked it will never work well. Now it will only shift to another unbalance. We see this with the number of Niki planes for one thing.

I would like to see more Tempests and 152s. Now they are very rare, and if you take a trip in one of them you will not get many fun fights. You just attrackts suicidal pilots. Doing wathever to get a shot at you.

I've often wondered if there has EVER been any verifiable data posted about the hispanos's 'uber-ness'.

I've talked online with Santa, Hazed, Wilbuz and Kirin, and they seem to think that the hispano never had AP rounds and that they cause too much damage in comparison to LW weapons.

I'm unsure about the hispano. To me, the only problems are its effectiveness against armoured targets and its long range. It seems like the only weapon to be able to take a vertical stabiliser off a plane at over 1000 yards or cause other critical damage.

Up close and personal it seems to be the same as a ShVak or B20 - except for the flat tradjectory, of course.

Is this concurrent with reality?

Hazed, I'm probably old enough to be your daddy.   Been there, done that, went back and did the fun stuff twice.

I'll go ya one further, too, just to throw gas on the fire you are warming yourself by.

Check and see what planes the majority of the complainers fly.

You know exactly which one it is without looking, don't you?

"Now they are very rare, and if you take a trip in one of them you will not get many fun fights. You just attrackts suicidal pilots. Doing wathever to get a shot at you"

That last sentence is EXACTLY why the chog shouldve, and imo, WAS perked. Too many of the loving 1 ticket 1 ping kill-sprayers around the arena. They dug their own grave in a sort of way. Its almost poetic.

You want the firepower? Pay a small amount of perks for it. Cant get 8 (or is it 7?) perks so you can fly your monster? You got an identical plane with SIX .50 cal guns. Just as deadly, but require you to ACM.

Ssssoooo... what is it you really want? The plane or the guns? The plane is there.. FOR FREE (D-Hog). The guns are there...FOR FREE (Tiffie).

It all bogs down to lack of ACM imo.
"A plane that can be so easely picked up by La7, 190D and P51 to mention some."

Yeah, those planes can EASILY pick and chew up a P-38, a C205, a Yak, 202, Ju88, TBM...wait a minute...so can D-Hog pick and chew these up! Maybe the problem is elsewhere. Hispano dependance perhaps? an F4u can very much hold its own in FLYING characteristics against all planes in the set.

"Good ordnance selection" D-Hog has more weapons of the same kind. No turbolaser though. (wait, is that it?).

70 perks for those planes is way too much I agree. But if you set it as a cheap perk you'd end up with lots of them. Say, 20 perks for them? Thats about the average 2 kill per flight pilot make about 10 or 12 sorties to pay for it.

"You know exactly which one it is without looking, don't you?"

Umm I dont. I see D-Hog pilots, spit pilots, pony pilots, 38 pilots *grin* , 205 pilots, jug pilots... a pretty mixed bunch.

Im glad its perked. Last 2 days ive been able to FLY through an engagement without having an f4u spraying big tracers my way. It felt GOOD.

Fokker.
The chog was perked primarily to give  herr toad something to keep on his pathetic soap box about.
Those same people that "love" the chog would love to fly the A10 if it was available and would defend thier right to have a plane that gave them a chance.

A more realistic chronology of the chogs illustrios career in AH would go something like this.
Chog is introduced imediatly rendering all bombers in AH useless. On my first mission in the thing I shot down 2 individual B17s a formation of 2 B26s and a Bf109g10. I had lots of ammo left and was pretty much unhurt.
Before any change was made to the guns on the Chog the durablility and fire power of all bombers was upgraded to give them any chance.
Next other guns had to be improved to decrease the disparity with the chog some what. They were not the Mg151 and mg131. But the fighter mount 50 cals. who Whined for that I wonder..and how long did it take to get the change. Not long and not the LW fans.

Still the guns in AH didnt seem to work as regards the chog. So varios gunnery tweeks were made to accomadate the beasty. The cumulative effect of these changes has been signifigant.
I sure hope the FM changes that made everyone turn turn turn were not triggered to allow some escape from the raging hispanos...but I wouldnt doubt it.

The Panzer IV was helpless against the hog C. easy 5 kill missions with cannons only. The ostwind was introduced to alieviate the threat to ground vehicles possed by the chog. It was armoured enough to be pretty much immune to non chog attack.

That has been allieviated some what with recent releases and some have developed their dive bombing skill to the point of supplanting the the chog as an anti vehicle ride. But they are rare.

People complain about bombers....they are that way because of chogs.
People compain about Osties. chog again.
Dont like the perk system...yup chog.

The chog has poisoned the game and the comunity since introduction.   Perking it has brought out the biggest whiners in the game to  reveal themselves in glorios blue technicolour.

As far as branding someone the vocal minority herr toad...you need not look far to find the vocal minority.

Fokker
"And we all know that attacking a field most of the time is a one-way ticket experience.
"
Only to the people that have a chog mentalitiy. Most of the time that I participate in field attacks most of the pilots rtb or land at the field. Your statment above is true for the chog wave attack that is one of the most rediculous occurences in AH. I am sorry if it is one of your favorite passtimes.

It is somewhat of an enigma why the plane continues to be so popular. the LA7 dominates the chog so badly as to be silly(maybe not with a top chog pilot at the stick but always in my experiance)

I hope that such a cheap perk will have the effect that Pyro wants. An arena where people can enjoy the chog but not be slaved to it.
Interesting that Herr toad has not the nuts to attack the person that perked the chog.  He feels that someone held down pyro and HT and made them do it. No the long history of the thing made them do it. But it is easier for some to find scape goats I guess. Blame the LW fans. Its their fault.... Ram convinced pyro to perk the chog...LOL
Fokker. you and your chog buddies were the only ones that could convince HTC to perk it. Blame yourselves.

In exactly the same way the 4 cannon F4U-4C introduced into Warbirds did exactly the same thing to that community.
