It only accuarately makes for simulating legally blind fighter pilots.

Our screens have a far lesser resolution than real-life eyesight and absolutely no stereoscopic vision.

No thank you. But feel free to use alt-i to show friendly icons only, if you want to.

I agree with Lusche on this one... it would also reward those that have better computers that can spot the a/c a bit sooner.

I enjoy a little realism in my fantasy, but I think this is a bit too much.

After pressing Alt-I twice you are not more prone to killshoot yourself as before... just don't shoot at green icons.

In AH we were flying in perfect glass air. So, 'legally handicapped pilots' is like  'WAAAA! MY ICONS!!!!'

Please, bring a LOT more options for the scenario CM's and h2h hosts concern the arena/room ICON options. This would really improve the variance for the people who are tired to the regular MA-fast food.

Back then the Finnish squads were having fun while beta testing the Kanttori's & Blauk's scenario terrains in h2h without icos or friendly icons only.

It was huge blast. You learned fast to ID the enemy planes and pay attention to you wingman / patrol.

Sorry to be so harsh... but that's utter nonsense.  :P

In the so praised real real life, I have no problem identifying a plane at 2K or determining it's heading

In AH with no icons, it's just a few pixels. Compare the resolution of the human eye to the crappy resolution an ordinary 19" screen provides.
And lacking stereoscopic view (which may be even the biggest drawback), I can't neither judge distance nor closure rate even remotely close to my RL capability, which isn't stellar in the first place. Lacking better resolution and 3D display, I'm reduced to a one-eyed extremely nearsighted pilot.

Actually icons make fighting more realistic in some way, giving us a workaround and providing us information that would be obvious in RL.

Anyone looking for the ultra but nonrealistic challenge in the MA can do it if he wishes. But as an MA arena setting, it's garbage.

Those pushing "no icons" as a realistic measure should ask themselves if they would bet money on being able to identify the a/c in the upper right hand corner and guess within plus or minus 200 yards it's range.

If not, then we must reconsider any supposed "realism" of such a measure. I will post the "answer" picture later.

"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

Oh come on bro, make it a tough one, this is easy..............  That is the perked 5-Pixel version of the 3-Pixel.   :rock

Distance wise though.......... You look a little above 10-12k and the Pixel is at about 1k

Just to be clear, you are guessing that the separation between the two aircraft is around ~8,000-10,000 feet?

The point is that getting rid of icons entirely is NOT a realism enhancing-option, or an option that in anyway makes the game more fun. So it is kind of pointless. It would in fact make the amount of information that can be gleaned at a glance far less than what a real pilot is capable of.

So, any takers on the pic? What is the plane type, range, is it heading towards or away?
