What's a Tiger to do?
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:05:03 PM »
http://www.comcast.net/sports/russakoffrules/18523/wheresfluffwhenyouneedhim/

This guy needs to shut his mouth, I love Tiger, I think he has done more for Golf than any one person ever has or will.  He needs to let Steve he is to be seen (carrying the bag) and not heard.

This references Fluff a couple of times, anyone here clear on exactly what lead to Fluff's firing from the bag?

Steve was drawn out by a question he should have ignored but in all fairness he did give his honest opinion. You dont fire someone for an opinion unless over the course of time they keep making the same mistakes.

Not up on Fluff.

Mickelson has been an outright jerk to at least 3 professional aquaintances of mine.  He's not done anything personally to me that led me to form an opinion.  I'm sure to the right people he's a nice guy but he like anyone is capable of being worth their weight in jerk.

Also Bones is not Fluff.  Fluff = Mike Cowan and Bones = Jim Mackay.

Long live Fred Couples!  A top class-act.  As is Paul Azinger, Peter Jacobsen, Jim Furyk and the late Payne Stewart.  I'm very happy I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Stewart before he left us.

I've met Lefty, when I worked at Ford.   He is a sweetheart, if you can stand pompous folks, he's your guy.

On the Class acts you mention, I agree 100%.    Payne did a lot, especially help John Daly at the British Open when he got the shakes.

The list you gave is great Golfer, how about Trevino, Chi-Chi, and some of those older guys as well, all class acts.  Payne Stewart was definitely one of my fav's growing up.

Michelson is a jerk.  Steve Williams is an a-hole.  They deserve each other.

The vast majority of PGA pros are good guys.  I got the opportunity to meet Frank Lickliter and Jerry Kelly while coordinating a clinic last year.  Both were class acts.

The Fluff deal with Tiger was mutual. Fluff was more or less the guy to get Tigers feet under him on tour. Also , Tiger didn't leave Fluff exactly down and out. If memory serves he bought Fluff a very nice house and made him wealthy.

Williams has been outspoken before. Probably not to this extent but he has made comments and his on course antics have made him a name. TIger probably won't fire him. I agree with Williams being honest in his opinion  , but sometimes a simple no comment and a look can say more than opening your mouth an making headlines for actually saying it.

Tiger could get a no one off the street to carry his bag and win anything he tees it up in. Williams isn't the beat all end all caddy on tour. He just has the best player on tour.

If Williams was hoofing for anyone else the would still be the same player in my opinion as they were before. Tiger makes Steve a great caddy.....Steve doesn't make Tiger a great player.

Fluff did wonders for Furyk...Jacobson...Same as Squeaky did for Price...they helped them more than Steve has help Tiger.

I understand that, it referenced Fluff leaving Tiger and I was curious if anyone knew the reason behind it.

There is only room for one star on the Tiger podium maybe? Cowan rocketed to fame along with Tiger back in the day and it might have caused too much distraction. I guess only Tiger or Cowan can say and I dont remember any big misreads or bad yardages but I can tell you when Tiger didnt produce a particular win he had called ahead of time (this year) it wasnt his knee that he blamed... he blamed the golf channel? Maybe the same happened to 'Fluff.'
