F6F views (not a whine, sorry)
« on: December 19, 2008, 08:52:30 AM »
There is a file that has your preset views which you can share with another player.  I am looking for a decent view setup for the F6F, especially the forward-right and forward-left angles.  Little did I know that I would actually like the F6F when I tried it, I just need to find a compromise with the "bird cage" canopy.

Anyone care to share?  I've looked around the HTC folder but I'm not yet sure of which file it is...

all head position files are sorted by name (plane)  with .hps extension in the settings folder.  in this case:  f6f5.hps

can't you adjujst your own views to find one you're happy with?

Views are dependent on how you fly. If you fly to set up crossing shots you may set the bars in a position a bit lower and to the side for a front/side view, but for "6" type shots everything may be set so your higher in the seat.

The file your looking for is C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\settings\planes\f6f5.hps if you are set in the default file system in XP. If your in Vista your screwed  :D No, look at the thread Skuzzy had stickied about "where are my files".

Normally, yes, but I'd like to see how someone with more experience in the F6F does it.  A good view setup is more difficult to achieve in this aircraft than others.

Maybe thats because there are no good setups for this aircraft. And, I find it hard to believe that US pilots would ever settle for an aircraft that had such a crappy view of the outside world. Which begs the question of weather or not the canopy obstructions are overstated.

I fly it a lot, you get used to the views after a while. I think the forward views are pretty good.

You used to be able to move your head way up and slightly out of the cockpit glass in the F6F but they fixed that.  I think I just use the default left/right views in it now.

Let me ask. How many dedicated Hellcat sticks actually get blindsided, due to views, by a con they didn't know was in back of them? It may have happened to me once but even then it was more my fault then the airplanes. Just keep it vertical and/or turning and its not that big a deal. Fly it often enough and the cage is no real hindrance either. I really like the new Hellcat.

Since they fixed the views. :huh

HT's minor patch fix did improve visibility a bit.  Factually speaking the F6F visibility remains abysmal.  This feature comes with the F6F it seems.  :lol  This is one plane where I wouldn't mind it NOT matching the real world plane with respect to its 6 visibility.

Anyone know if a later model F6F came out with a bubble canopy, or at least better visibility on your six?
