The F4U Gunsight Thing
« on: August 06, 2000, 03:30:00 PM »
The gunsights look so weird because of the angle of the glass.  Is there a way to make the gunsights appear circular?

Update: I made an improved F4U gunsight, see my other post.

tell me about it!
I have a mk8 sight for my hog and it is so squished it isn't funny.  I can put it in any other plane and it looks fine but in the hog bah!

How come other planes with angled glass don't have a distorted sight?

The only plane which has an angled HUD is the F4U.

Negative Rendar.  I've seen 109's and 190's in museums and the glass on the Revi gunsight was most definitely angled.

So is nearly any other US plane. Projection comes up and is reflected off the slanted glass panel. Uh I believe US turrent sights also have slanted glass panels

Hmmm.  So the F4U must have a bug.  Superfly said that this would be fixed, but I'm curious why this is inly seen on the F4U?

All reflection sights had a slanted glass.

The image producer, kind of a lightbulb, reflects the image of the gunsight onto the glass, where it then reflects into the pilots eyes.  The image on the gunsight glass is focused into infinity, so it is sharp as the pilot looks through it at the target.

Here's a pic of Revi 16B reflector gunsight, used on 109s.

The "bulb" is the black cylinder and reflects the image on the glass.
